Donโt get me wrong, I do think this is a pretty useful and somewhat helpful app to use for purposes related to communicating with incarcerated loved ones that are locked up in certain facilities where NCIC is the main source for inmate to family and vice versa messaging/video visitingโฆ itโs just that Iโve had unexplained scenarios for multiple situations that Iโm just gonna say happened for no good reason on there. First of all, obviously your not allowed to talk to inmates AT ALL about anything related to violence, crime, sexuality, narcotics etc. which of course is reasonable. What isnโt reasonable is that the administrators donโt block those type of inappropriate chats it seems like, while often time me or the person Iโm typing too wonโt even be able to see our thread despite our conversation being totally appropriate and this is my only assumption as to why this happens after seeing a message thatโll say โMessaging has been blocked by this facilityโ to which Iโll then realize Iโm blocked from messaging any facilities, only for messaging to become available again the next day. My only other opinion is that itโs a glitch in the system. Other than that, itโs literally impossible for me to send a video to my friend in jail because of a message that keeps popping up about my face needing to be shown in the video, when thatโs all Iโm trying to record is my face which is the same as what my expression was in the facial recognition you have to set up whenever creating a new profile on it. Lastly, the very small selection of GIFs that are available to send to each other are so lame and stupid, itโs almost pointless to use and they wanna charge an extra 10 cents more (I know thatโs nothing but still) to send those as opposed to the 25 cents per message, which is 1 good thing Iโll say about this app since a quarter of a dollar for each chat sent is alright in my opinion. Anyways, those are my main problems with this app otherwise Iโm at least thankful I get the opportunity to talk to my hot ex-girlfriend through NCIC.
I had no issues when I first downloaded this app and my loved one was incarcerated. This time around it has been nothing but a problem. I can schedule a visit but not actually log in to conduct the visit. I can no longer log in at all. Iโve reset my password to meet the standards that they demand and it tells me there is an error. Iโve contacted customer support and they simply said we have to submit a ticket due to you being upset and I canโt help you. Needless to say I am still unable to communicate with my loved one unless they call me. And well once my money runs out I wonโt be able to log in and add funds due to the glitch in their app.
The act of going through an update shows NCIC is working to be better, so I will be positive. The NCIC app is a fantastic tool for families wanting to stay connected with their incarcerated loved ones. It does have its bugs, like logging me out for no reason. The mission to bridge the gap and maintain relationships despite the physical distance is truly commendable. The ability to text, share pictures, and video chat brings a much-needed sense of normalcy and connection. I'm under no disillusionment and know LEO is the largest consumer of the data generated from this app. However, I do have a couple of suggestions for improvement. The price per message feels a bit steep, especially considering the 200 character limit. Doubling the amount of characters per text would add great value if lowering the price isn't feasible. Additionally, expanding the selection of GIFs would add a fun, expressive element to our conversations. A lot of families using this app, are struggling financially. Having a number of free GIFs per day would be nice. A lot can be said with a GIF if the selection is broad. Perhaps one day, we might be able to play small games like chess, battleship or billiards. Overall, the NCIC app is a vital resource for staying in touch with loved ones and strengthening family bonds. This can not be overstated. Keep up the good work!
