Reviews: What People Think About SeaPeople: Boat, Fish, Paddle

Rating: 5/5
As someone who has been using the SeaPeople app since its early days, I can’t say enough about how valuable and enjoyable it is. It’s more than just an app—it’s a community. Whether you’re tracking others during a crossing, seeing who’s anchored nearby, or asking and answering questions, it’s all about sailors coming together and sharing knowledge and experiences.
It quickly became my go-to app for creating automatic trip logs, sharing passages on social media, or simply connecting with others in the SeaPeople community. The ease of use and the sense of connection it brings make it an indispensable tool for anyone out on the water.
If you’re a boater, this app is a must-have. I highly recommend it to everyone—it’s made my journeys all the more memorable!

We have been cruising for nearly four years now and this app contains a mother lode of treasures! See who’s in the anchorage with you and what they are interested in, join or create a hail channel around those interests, and you have a spearfishing party or salty band of sailors for a beach bonfire or potluck. It’s also handy when the dinghy breaks down outside of the harbor and you’re drifting out into the Atlantic and need a tow in (ask me how I know). This app has so many more useful applications than I have the time or patience to describe in a review- so just download it and discover them for yourselves!

As a woman sailor on this app, I have been getting more spam and unsolicited dating requests. One user I blocked subsequently messaged me to ask why I blocked them. There is currently little way for the app to combat spam, stalking, and unsolicited DMs like on an app like Instagram. It’s ruining the experience and frustrating that there appears to be nowhere to report on safety or spam.
Add that the app wants to know my location at all times (yes you can turn off location sharing, but the app will constantly remind you to turn it back on). This resulted in a potential security breech for me as I turned on the app to check a message and the app immediately identified my location on a job where I needed security clearance. Not to mention the potential for stalkers and other bad actors to use this information maliciously. The app needs better security management.
