As if needing medications were not already stressful enough, if you are forced to use this service, expect to have to advocate for yourself constantly. Due to my insurance (progyny rx by alto), I have had to use alto three times now for medical processes with frequent orders and tight timelines. Most recently, I ordered medication only to learn I could only get a day at a time. I messaged alto to figure out the issue and learned that they had misclassified my service as the extension of a previous procedure rather than a new one. I had to get my clinic to send all new prescriptions on a Sunday, even though alto had already received those prescriptions and had them on file. In addition to messaging, I had to call three times to get them to actually follow through in fixing the issue. Thanks to my last call, I got the order in at literally the last possible minute to get an on-time delivery. Now they’ve decided that they don’t have authorization from the insurer. Again, they do have this authorization on file; I have a written record; they have messed up. But between two days ago, when I could order medications, and now they’ve decided that I cannot order until they reauthorize - a process that can take up to five days. But my meds run out tomorrow, so I guess it is going to be another day of phone calls with alto. (Update: they were able to at least temporarily resolve the issue after a call, so the two-star rating is for the helpful and kind call folks I’ve worked with on the help line.)
I switched because i read that alto tries its hardest to satisfy special requests, such as specifying a certain generic brand of drug to be avoided. Customer service really is as awesome as people said, and I have no problems with the app nor deliveries. I’m rather disorganized and often intimidated by this type of thing, but the app is very user-friendly and comprehensive, and fortunately there is an auto-refill delivery option. I love that a pharmacy agent sends me a message if the available brand of generic rx changes from before. I’m thankful to the kind people who deliver, too. My place is usually difficult for them to find but I’m perfectly happy walking around outside to meet them, calling and using the gps location services with the driver. They also package using recycled paper and they include a sweet each time!! I would love it if they had their own program for collecting and repurposing their pill bottles, because, as we know, the generalized plastic recycling systems in most areas are shamefully inefficient. I’ve made the suggestion to Alto before, but perhaps there are safety/security regulations preventing such. Overall, its still seriously too good to be true. Switching was easy, as is communication between my doctor and pharmacy; same low prices as when i was using cvs; service has always been prompt, sometimes even same-day; COVID-19 safety precautions are taken seriously; and I’ve ordered deliveries for the past year in orange county and sf bay area.
It is! ALL apps should be modeled after this one!!! I was so skeptical because I didn’t understand how receiving my medication could be made so simple and no glitches in obtaining my healthcare or prescriptions on file. I signed up and received a text within minutes as they obtained my information with photos of each of my medications that I had at three different pharmacy’s because of recently moving! There was a medication I didn’t know I needed a new prescription for and they reached out to me letting me know they were requesting my doctor for a new prescription... like what!!! I live in a city now and it’s difficult to get to my medication especially during biz hours so this is a life savor. The best thing is the customer support team is SO quick to respond. The candy in the envelope and overall aesthetic of the pill bottle is beautifully packaged. Going to the pharmacy and waiting in line especially during a pandemic is such a chore. Alto has a human element to it where you skip the line and aren’t talking to an annoyed pharmacist, you’re talking to people who really care! I’ve never written a review before but I truly have no idea how they’ve done this. Thank you for everything!!!
