Simplest RPG Game - Text Story

I’ve gotten this game on a few different devices just as a way to waste some time every now and then, but honestly I wanted to make this review bc I saw someone say once you get to Goblin Archer you’re basically required to grind lower level mobs for exp bc you’re too weak but that’s easily not true. I just redownloaded it on my new iPad and spent maybe 10 minutes on it tops, got to level 45 and got past Goblin Archer easily. Did it with like the first set of equipment bc I just spent all the money upgrading it. One thing they were right about though is that new equipment feels kinda bad. Got the lvl 35 gear and it costs way way more to upgrade and the scaling is basically the same so my level 70 starter necklace was better than my lvl 50 (unlocked at lvl 35) ring, which shouldn’t be how that works. It should scale much better at higher levels especially with how the cost scales. Good game though, fun time waster, would recommend

This app is essentially an idle game disguised as an RPG, and it doesn't really work. The problem is that progress is too slow, and there's too much player involvement for this to truly be an idle game. What really kills this though, is the upgrade system. Blacksmith upgrades allow you to make your equipment much more powerful, though this doesn't mesh well with the game's need for the player to constantly be buying new equipment. You can't have any long term investment in a single piece of equipment since it will always be replaced, but you can't meaningfully increase your progress threshold without dumping a ton of investment into your current gear, making this system incredibly counterintuitive. The absolute worst part though, is that your items can actually break when upgrading them at the blacksmith. When an item breaks, you have a chance to save it through a reaction time mini-game, though it gets harder the higher level your equipment is, and if you mess up, that means that piece of equipment is gone forever, along with your large gold investment in it. This arbitrarily sets the player very far back in progress to no fault of their own, there is absolutely no reason for this mechanic to exist. Even if you are able to successfully save your equipment, you waste large sums of money upon failed upgrade attempts, and equipment breaking happens very often. While it's only a 10% chance, those chances are amplified when you have to upgrade your equipment dozens of times for it to even be usable, so you should expect to constantly run into this issue. Simplest RPG is yet another time waster app, and it's not fun or well designed enough to be played over much more well thought out time wasters.

Very fun for about an hour, and then things slow down to a crawl. There is a mechanic when fighting monsters where you’re penalized for being under leveled, so once you hit the Goblin Archer you basically have to stop progressing to grind levels. Also, it becomes painfully obvious around this time that buying new equipment is not worth it, but the upgrades are too expensive once you get to that point. So from here you really only have 2 options; you can grind lower level monsters for gold and exp and then wait for your energy to recharge, or pay for the King upgrade. The only saving grace at this point is there is an option to pay $1 for a week or $10 for the permanent boost. The devs were smart for this. Overall the game is very solid and I hope to see more from these guys, 5 stars regardless of the paywall. Throw them a dollar. It’s worth it.
