Great Casual Play

The game is visually appealing, not as “pixel” as I expected from the title, but still in the area. At the time of writing this, I’m at level 134, patiently pushing for 135 to unlock the next feature. There’s a decent amount to do during a session of play. I wish there was a little more because many times I wanting to do some more things. In early game, you can feel overwhelmed because it seems like there is so much information flooding in, but you’ll get the hang of it and start focusing on the direction you want to go with what characters you want to build, gear, etc. it’s an overall fun game. There’s no need to spend money, it’s not a P2W game. It’s free and ad free. I’ve spent money for VIP benefits and to get some characters I wanted, but it’s not a necessity, I enjoy the game. I wish the devs would implement an Advent and Ascension type that’s good for early game, but perfect food for higher leveling, like how Pyro Knight is. Pyro Knight (and Aura Knight) is an easy leveling up main tank. Great for early team builds and great food for later character builds. Leveling up Advent/Ascension characters always become a long process due to their rarity. When leveling up characters, you feed them other characters. There is a base, as in if you’re leveling up Character-A, you have to have a certain amount of Character-A to advance tiers along with other expendable characters (aka: food). For Advent/Ascension, not only is Character-A and expendable food required, another Advent/Ascension food is required for higher tiers. I don’t think it would interrupt the challenge, but I do think it would make it more fun and provide motivation for current and future builds. It’s a fun game to get into and doesn’t demand much of your time to progress.

Just Another Cash Farm

The visuals are mostly phenomenal, and the game is optimized to run pretty well on most devices, also, all the characters seem at least semi-usable. That being said, wow. Do not play this game. Its a template of old-style gachas complete with the tree of resources and dice maze. If you have played any gacha in the past 10 years, you've already played this game. It is an absolute monstrosity of a cash cow, there is almost nothing for players who dont spend or even spend a little. There is not even the slightest hint of generosity in this one. You will need copy after copy of character, copy after copy of low tier characters, and you'll never get the handful of "SSSSSR" characters because those are for mega whales only, which is also who is dominating this game. There are about 10,000 things to buy, popups constantly, all the passes you could dream of. If you like to spend insane amounts of money on mobile games, you still probably wont like this. I cannot believe this game was hyped up even slightly.

That one banner message: “Someone pulled…”

-As of February 11, 2025, 9:40PM CST- Cheerful music, eye catching character design reminiscent of Akira Toriyama’s art style (Dragon Ball/Dragon Quest), an interesting story premise, and simple yet engaging gameplay; this game has all the hallmarks of something truly enjoyable. ESPECIALLY in light of every Dragon Quest mobile game getting shut down in North American app stores. I honestly missed the art style. I’ve got only one problem with this game: no matter what you’re doing, whether you’re going through menus or simply watching a story cutscene, you always see banner messages on the top of the screen broadcasting things like “PersonA just pulled Roland” or “PersonB just pulled Anastasia”. There are times when I want to read things slowly to take in the atmosphere of the game and that rapidly flashing banner appearing non-stop prevents me from enjoying this title. There isn’t even a button to hide or reduce these banner messages in the settings! I understand this is a newer release and truly feel as though a sincere effort was put into this mobile game so it pains me to leave a somewhat poor-to-middling review here, and yet I hope that one day I will have an opportunity to revisit an updated version of Realms of Pixel that addresses their nonstop banner broadcast issue so I may properly enjoy the game. I shudder to even imagine what people who suffer from attention deficit disabilities may think; this is the kind of thing that should have been considered during initial app testing and will hinder the app from surging in popularity until it is addressed.
