This game changes you deeply, you get so attached, you gently open the door, it all changes. You watch her stab herself and then you have to sit there are are forced to watch her dead body decompose. This is the scariest piece of media to ever be conceived. It damages you, sayori killed herself because of you itโs your fault, you were greedy, you wanted that cupcake. YOU wanted. To- YOU WANTED TO MAKE HER HAPPY. But your greed your selfishness, their is no other way, if you say somthing else, your lying to yourself. She knew it wasnโt right she knew. She. Knew. She tried to save herself. She tried, she realized. It was to late. This game doesnโt need to cost money. The game takes somthing, somthing you will never get back. The game leaves a scar. The ga- the experien- YOU. YOU, LEFT. A. SCAR. ON. YOURSELF. IT CANT LEAVE YOUR HEAD YOU KNOW YOU SHOULDNT HAVE EVER PLAYED OPENED THE GAME. SHE didnโt make her do it. You made HER make YOUR BEST FRIEND LOOK AT THE ROPE. AND YET. WHEN YOU WATCH A CLIP OF SAYORIS DEATH OF YURIS DEATH, AFTER THE FIRST 2 SECONDS OF SEEING HER HUNG, THE FIRST 2 STABS. Even if itโs your 100th time seeing it. You, couldโฆ laugh at someoneโs reaction to it 2 seconds later, you freeze, you break. Welcome to your reality, you made it all happen. Welcome. To the Doki Doki Literature Club, You did this to yourself, not Monika, not watching Yuri die. Watching sayori die, imagining her hanging herself. Maybe, you think that, but you made them do it. The one with the control isnโt Monika itโs always, will always, and has always. Been. You.
I take back my last review, still giving it 5 stars though. Game is not boring. It invokes a lot of thought. I done a lot of thinking since playing it. And the music is not annoying. I guess the end of the game changed that for me. The girls are still 10/10 baddies so I'm not changing that about my review. It was given to me on a TikTok, that based on my birth month of February, I had to larp DDLC. I was then, quite familiar with it. As I kept interacting with DDLC content, even just staying on a post for 1 second longer than usual, TikTok kept pushing more out to me. Eventually, I thought, โhell, Iโll play it. But I wonder why itโs listed as physiological horror?โ So I play through the game, so much reading. I ainโt much of a reader, so I just keep tapping my screen. Even that takes too long, so I uninstall the game. Eventually, I give it another shot. I slow down and enjoy what the game has to offer. Eventually, I found myself immersed, yknow, emotional. Now, Iโm not too bright, so it isnโt too hard for me to get deeply immersed in stuff. I sorta go to accept it as reality. So when Sayori, not to spoil it, although Iโm sure you likely know already, when Sayori was left hanging, it was real sad. Eventually, I got to the end. Then the credits is a whole nother thing. It makes you look back on it all. I just finished for the third time, tryn to get the other endings and all. All thats to say, awesome game, just get into it and you'll see.
For many years I have enjoyed watching people play this game. Unfortunately, I never had a personal computer myself. When I heard that it was available to play on phone, I was delighted. Serenity Forge does a very good job of porting it. I was very happy to get a chance to start and complete my own playthrough. There were a few things I noticed that may admittedly be not possible to achieve on IOS. One I was particularly sad about was that does not seem to be a way to copy Monikaโs save file to get her dialogue about trying to add it back to the game in Act 3. But along with that there were many things I was pleasantly surprised with, such as how they handled not choosing Monika in Act 2 with a Captcha that seems to be mobile specific. It was very refreshing to see new content in a game made over half a decade ago. In any case, it makes me incredibly happy to have Doki Doki Literature Club available on the App Store, and free as well. I will be looking forward to seeing what Team Salvatore and Serenity Forge accomplish in the future, and they will have my gratitude for making the game accessible to more and more players.
