Evoto-AI Photo Editor&Retouch

It actually works. I’m a professional photographer with over 25 years now uninterrupted and Evoto makes my editing process a little more fun than other traditional softwares. I still need to use Ps for some specific edits but overall I’m impressed. I found my style of editing in a few clicks. I now, is a credit based app, so two things, do not deliver an exaggerated amount of photos and keep it for what it matter for real. This is not to play around with any random photo because you will use all your credits. If you do events or any type of photography that you need to deliver hundreds of photos then keep looking elsewhere. If you do fashion, session, portraits etc. yes it worth the money!

I don’t write reviews for apps. They are all gimmicky. The AI comes out very cheesy. Remini works very well but it tends to over beautify a face (adding lashes and rosey cheeks). So there’s always something slightly different. It’s just enough where the person looks more like a sibling. And the fine tuning is good but all manual. I just tried this on a selfie. Honestly…the AI did an amazing job automatically!! The improvements were very subtle. It truly repaired every flaw without making me look like a different person or making me look filtered. Then I tried a photo of my wife at the pool. I brushed the children in the background away as well as the shoes. Here it actually did struggle quite a bit and did a poor job. The kids were on large rocks so the AI tried to rebuild the rocks once the kids were removed and it looked awful. Just a huge blur. Same for the shoes which were just sitting on concrete so it shouldn’t have been an issue. So I ended up blurring the entire background. But it only blurred about 85% leaving the area on the lower left side clear. I also changed the sky using the various options they had and that worked pretty well. I will play with it a bit more before I decide to actually purchase. I’ve only actually purchased one app (FaceTune) because it does a decent job on portraits and was on sale. From the one selfie I just did using this app…this app worked flawlessly for that. But again…it failed for the other photo so we’ll see.

I recently heard of the desktop version of EVOTO AI. I tried it and purchased an annual subscription shortly thereafter. I don’t use the raw conversion feature much or even the tethering feature, but I find the retouching features superb. When I heard of the pending iPad app, I was quite excited. The first version released was a good start, but a bit rough around the edges. But the November 13, 2024 release was a great step forward to achieving parity with the desktop version. Yet, there is one critical workflow issue that prevents me from fully endorsing the app. I would continue to use Capture One for the iPad, not because it has more/better features, but because of the seamless ability to combine an iPad to desktop workflow. With EVOTO for iPad, if you tether or otherwise import images into the app, you cannot take a project or images that you begin editing on the iPad and continue on the desktop. The only way it seems to move images is to export them. Each export uses credits. That assumes a workflow that is either iPad OR desktop, but not one that can begin on one platform and transfer to the other without exporting and using credits. For that reason, I cannot fully endorse it for a photographer’s full workflow. I would be happy to change it if EVOTO addresses that issue. A truly amazing product otherwise.
