I actually picked United FCU when it was time for me to change financial institutions because of their app. The app has just about everything you could want including the ability to add external accounts to view or move money between, it’s easy to nickname accounts, and you can set up scheduled transfers. You can also do other add-on’s like categorize your spending and creating a budget which you can monitor. The only thing I don’t like is Zelle because it’s difficult to send money to non-Zelle users. Overall I’m very satisfied.

The app and banking system provided is only functional for individuals who like to carry a checkbook to balance themselves, or who have knowledge of how banking is to work. Definitely less user friendly and less accurate than others I have banked with. The app itself is slow moving. I find I regularly have to go through my receipts and balance my books due to the inaccuracies and lack of information the app has. I often find times where I have no access to my app due updates or maintenance. I have even reached out to customer service and tried to figure out what’s going on with my account and they are not helpful and they do not have answers. Their customer service team is nice, just not helpful. Considering the younger generations are not taught to balance checkbooks I find this to be extremely outdated. (Whether younger generations should be taught to balance checkbooks is a separate argument.) I do not find this banking institution to be keeping up with their competitors and the other banks available. I would definitely recommend shopping around to find a bank that suits your lifestyle and needs.

Visa portion in the account display used to show how much is currently charged on the Visa (was shown below the main Balance Available) with the this amount changing immediately if either a charge was made or a credit was applied. Now, it takes a few days for the main Balance Available amount to change do to “posting” time, but knowing the total amount currently charged on the Visa at that exact moment was (and is) critical. Now, when I apply a credit to the Visa, it shows NOTHING changed on my balance! This is misleading and causes issues! Another person on the account could see nothing changed, apply another credit and now you have over paid! The last credit I applied to the Visa has not shown posted to the account and it has been over four days ago. This was NOT an issue before UFCU update and defiantly not an improvement. Also, when contacting UFCU through the app, it would be approximately 24 hours and I would receive a reply. Now it may take a few days.
