It has a lot of helpful tools and I like the variety of recipes, they look like things Iโd want to eat even off of this diet. But it drives me crazy that every time I click on a recipe to look/add it, it starts you over at the beginning of the recipes again, I mean if youโre trying to browse through. Even with app background refresh turned off. I wish the recipe maker also had some common processed ingredients in it, like (insert popular brand) gluten free flour. Which would be commonly used instead of trying to come up with our own version of flour. (Gluten free mainly due to it being low fodmap bc wheat isnโt.) Thank you :)
TL;DR: Recipe Maker solves stacking; ONLY one time charge of $2.99 Iโm just starting FODMAP, which is challenging since identifying short-chain carbohydrates is not intuitive. The biggest hurdle for me has been combining foods into a recipe or meal without stacking FODMAP friendly ingredients together inadvertently making a FODMAP unfriendly meal. The Recipe Maker calculates the FODMAP load of each individual component, eg monosaccharides vs polyols) so you can remove or substitute ingredients or adjust the volume to develop an overall FODMAP friendly (for YOU) recipe or meal. Stacking mystery solved!!! It requires a little patience to input everything for recipes with a variety of ingredients, but SO worth it! The one time charge (which is not a subscription) is a bargain! The free trial lets you play around with a couple of recipes with some limited functionality, which I found helpful to test it out before purchasing it.
One star reviews are outdated! Definitely worth giving a try. Iโm new to low fodmap and trying to learn the basics and this app is super helpful! The recipes section is especially handy. I do have some feedback, but neither comment is a dealbreaker. The first is just a mild inconvenience really and thatโs that Iโm US-based and this app does not pick up on my American spelling in the search results. (I.e. โyogurtโ initially came up with no results because itโs โyoghurtโ. Thereโs no โwhole milkโ because itโs called โfull creamโ.) It would be NICE if it didnโt filter out my US spelling/lingo or if there were a US language setting, but again itโs not a dealbreaker. I can still find what Iโm looking for by clicking on the categories and muddling through. The vast majority of foods are exactly the same so itโs not too much of a problem. The second is more of an issue that will bug me more as I go along, Iโm sure. It would be helpful to have some kind of base ingredients or nutrients or something to compare to on things that are not single ingredients, such as mayo, bread, cookies, etc. How am I supposed to compare what Iโm eating to what is listed when there are so many different products/recipes on the market? Especially knowing Iโm in the US and the app is likely Australian based where the products arenโt made the same, I feel that adds an extra layer of unreliability when it comes to those foods. Most likely I will not be using those for reference often unless I have no clue where they fall on the fodmap spectrum. Even still, itโs a very decent database with a lot of helpful information to springboard from - even on the prepared foods it gives a general โguidelineโ to kind of point you in the right direction, even if itโs not super reliable - and when youโre starting with whole foods and learning fodmap itโs a really great place to begin.
