When did you sneak in the Home Sea Home update?! I could swear I checked the update notes every time because I'm one of the weirdos who actually like the iOS interface a lot, and I've been really sad that I couldn't play Shipwrecked on iOS because the Home Sea Home content is so, so important. So, yay! It's here at last! (Although it looks like some minor things are still a bit buggy -- Walani's descriptions of most of the new content are "It's a...thing", which is afaik the default "oops, we forgot to put in a description of this" description -- and the edge-of-the-map endless loop bug is still there.) Update: After finally unlocking completing the quest to free Woodlegs and unlock his character, I was feeling triumphant! So it was really crushing to discover that his exclusive boat cannon doesn't work on mobile. I love this game, but the bugs in this port can get you down.
Firstly, let me say that this game is beautiful. The design is stunning and the scenery is also. The characters have their own styles and “voice” which is typically the music. Secondly, I would also say that the journey is a very fun one. It’s adventurous. I use it as a challenge to see how many days I can survive and to dig out the secrets. I want to unlock and discover everything. Maybe there’s a way to escape? Maybe not? Only as the days continue, Will I probably find out. Lastly, the bugs. It’s terrible. I would give it five stars but I my character glitching in the game as my days get longer. The music starts to get all disoriented and that’s not just from losing my sanity. My sanity can be perfectly fine but the music isn’t. Then the colors start to fade, which is annoying because everything goes to a gray color. The birds don’t even sound like birds anymore. Even when I close out the game and open it again, it fixes it for a while and then it goes back to crap again. Please fix. Other than this, I would recommend to anyone looking for a challenge within a stunning game.
I'll get right to the point. In addition to Shipwrecked mobile, I also own DS pocket edition, and while I have never had any issue with the latter (save for occasional frame rate drops during the game's auto save mechanic or during heavy whether, both of which always resolve shortly) Shipwrecked has suffered more significant performance issues, which this last update fixed for the most part. However, the game repeatedly crashes each time it attempts to auto save, or I attempt to save and quit, something that was also present before the update. So far I have two worlds, one on day 30 and another on day 9. I can't get any further in either of these due to guaranteed periodic crashes. That said, none of my game files appear to be corrupted, as the game did not direct me to the forums or support like some have reported; I'd prefer not to lose my worlds, but if I have to generate a new map in order to guarantee an unhindered game experience, I still wouldn't give this game anything less than the 5 stars I know it deserves. The amazingly unique experience that both the original DS pocket edition and Shipwrecked have delivered is unparalleled, and both are tied as my favorite games of all time, in their genre and overall. I know everyone at Klei is hard at work, and these issues will be resolved (anything less than 3 stars at this point seems excessively harsh). Thanks for your time. ***Update: The game is now able to function well within the system requirements as the previous patches suggest, and I haven't experienced any crashes even after extended periods of time. Thanks Klei!
