Virginmedia Connect App

While I had the Hub3 the app was useful but now I have Hub4 so the Connect App is not compatible. Nobody from Virginmedia is able to say if there will be an upgrade to the App to work with Hub4. When will I be able to use this at its full potential like before ?? This is an update to the above mentioned issues regarding the Connect App and Hub4. I have had the Hub4 for some time since it was introduced as a replacement for Hub3. There was an update to the Connect App which I downloaded and tried out. After initial problems the Hub4 and the Connect App are able to communicate. I am able to use most of the features that are available on the app. Still have the Wi-Fi speed and connectivity issues ! Update : April 2024 In the past 3months haven’t been able to use the Connect App . The App keeps responding that it “Cannot find the Hub.” I have reported this issue to Virginmedia but nothing seems to be happening. Cannot scan the Hub for WiFi and hence carry out Pause/Unpause. So basically the App is useless. Have plenty of WiFi availability issues around the house. Very poor customer service from Virginmedia !

“Take control of your WiFi”

“Take control of your WiFi” is the apps title and yet when I try to take control of my WiFi and set it up as I want to and plan to, you force me to set it up your way by Merging WiFi signals, when I don’t want it set up like that or can’t because of smart home appliances….. this app forces you to set up your WiFi the way virgin wants you to, not they way you want it to. And if you refuse to do it their way the app just refuses you access to your product…… “Hello there, we’re sorry you’re experiencing problems with our app. If you have made any changes to your network such as splitting or renaming your SSID's or the passwords the app will look to optimise this. All of the SSID's and password matching is the best way for seamless connection.” No it’s not, the fact that both are the same actually make for a less secure WiFi network, but that’s not the problem the problem lies with the fact that I can’t control what the app does when I want to change setting on my router i am forced to go with what you think is best (especially when it’s not) this is not only a program problem, it started with the way virgin set up their upgrade path of contracts, no control for the customer only what we think is best and it shows, other wise you would have a website to access for upgrade options etc… and it ends with the way the app is designed, but I know the company doesn’t care about things like that, other wise the app wouldn’t force you with specific set ups.

Overly automated

Virgin have been kind enough to send me a free WiFi pod. However, the app is more often than not saying that things are disconnected, or can’t be found etc. I am an app Product Manager by profession, as well as having certification in networking. Basically, the way these Virgin products work is a mystery at best. The Pod seems to be working but it’s completely mysterious what’s happening when it does a 15 minute refresh, and more mysterious when you click on the pod, to be told that it can’t find it, but simultaneously the diagram shows you that multiple devices are connected to it. It seems to be working despite the app error messages. The app seems to have some useful features for renaming devices and seeing their IP addresses. I’ll keep playing. I guess the app is better than nothing!
