I’ve had my ringcon for almost a year, and I absolutely loved it. I would take it traveling, do sports with it, and took it everywhere and barely ever took it off. I loved how it looked, felt, and functioned. I loved the sleep tracking and that I could put it on airplane mode. It had an amazing battery life too. It tracked my periods. I was impressed. They added the feature of automatic spots tracking (which I really wanted and other rings offer) and it worked well sometimes, it didn’t capture my weight lifting but did capture my dance, walks, runs, and tennis. I could live with that trade off. I had to manually choose what I sport it was but it did track the movement. Near this update came another update that I’m not sure is related, but soon after the battery life diminished dramatically. I would put it to charge and it would say “100%” and only sometimes I can put it on the charger and it says the actual amount, about “5%” charged and then one second later it says 100%, which I know isn’t true. The charge is SO ridiculously bad now that sometimes it doesn’t last a day and I miss tracking workouts as I didn’t know it died. I have to charge it all the time now, and it dies on me spontaneously… It’s sadly becoming not worth it and useless. It’s a shame as I really liked this ring. I’m not sure if this is an update issue or the natural life cycle of this ring, but what I do know is that it’s life cycle is short.
I love my RingConn Gen 2 smart ring. It’s sleek, attractive, and lightweight. I often forget I’m wearing it, which makes it perfect for sleep tracking. I’m especially glad that it doesn’t require a subscription like its chief competitor. The app for it is solid, but not as user friendly as the one I had for my Galaxy Ring. My number 1 complaint is that the sleep score is very strict. I can have a refreshing night’s sleep and still only score a 79 or 80. I can count on one hand how many times in the past six months I’ve had a sleep score above 90, and I have never had trouble in that area. The app seems to lower my sleep score if I don’t wake up when the sun comes up. (It’s apparently letting me know that my circadian rhythm doesn’t match the norm.) I have to be at work very early, so I go to bed early and wake up before sunrise. I can sleep a full 8 hours with adequate REM sleep and still have a score in the upper 70s or low 80s. I also wish the app could count my steps and update them in real time. Sometimes the delay in synching my steps to the app is too long, and sometimes the lag makes it seem like not all my steps are being counted. It would be helpful if the app could communicate with the Apple Health app more seamlessly, too. I wish the ring and app could give me blood pressure information and let me know if my temperature indicates a possible illness. I’ve read that support for those issues might be coming in the RingConn Gen 3 (along with vibration notifications). Overall, this app is a strong companion to my RingConn Gen 2. The widgets are useful, and I haven’t had any issues with it crashing either. With just a few tweaks, it could be a 5-star app that matches the level of the hardware it supports.
As far as RingConn vs Aura, my wife has Aura, and there isn’t much of a difference, both apps are ok. For workouts, stick with a watch - The RingConn app is no where near as great as the Apple Watch - it does not organize the date into an easy to read summery, but the data is all there - so unless you want to get out your spreadsheet it’s not very helpful. For sleep, the RingConn does a good job, and if this is why you want it than go for it. Who is to say if the Apple Watch is accurate (?) but if it is than the RingConn is not accurate with its heart rate measurements during workouts - generally it’s in the right realm but at peak work out it reads quite low compared to the Apple Watch. This could be because it only tracks every 5 minutes and perhaps it’s not getting my peak heart rate moments. The Apple Watch you can record specific workouts like yoga, hockey, interval training etc. The RingConn you’ll have to just look at the hours. Graphs could be better and data summaries for workouts could be improved. Hopefully accuracy will get better. Should you get this? If you want to track sleep and not wear a bulky watch than yes, I don’t think you’ll get a better product or app with any other smart ring. For workshouts definitely get a smart watch they are just far more sophisticated at the time of this review.
