My fiancรฉ and I are pretty new to the world of D&D but weโre super excited to dive in and start playing, and the only hang up weโve been having so far is the complications of character creations, and all the stuff that goes into it. I saw this app on the AppStore and decided why not, might as well try it. Only 20 mins into it so far and Iโve already rounded out two of the characters I was planning on creating. Itโs nice to have a visual representation of the character, bc even though Iโm artistically inclined, I donโt really wanna spend hours drawing while Iโm also trying to just figure out the stats & details of each character. My only complaint so far is the limited races, because Iโve had my heart set on creating a Kenku rogue and it looks like thatโs not an available race. In the upgraded version (costs money) you can add birdlike โhelmsโ to a humanoid character to make them have a bird head, so I guess thatโs one way around it but itโd be nice to just have like a bird-folk race available. TLDR; I like it well enough and even the free version is a great option if you want a visual representation of your rpg or dnd character/s without spending a bunch of time or money
I downloaded this app a couple weeks ago, left a particularly nasty review because of the $10 paid subscription for the full version (more than most appstore purchases) but I've been using the free version of the app quite frequently and made multiple characters, it's really quite fantastic after getting over that! I'm still a slight bit irked, otherwise this would be a solid 5 star review, but the free version includes a variety of character choices and is very easy to edit and navigate your character sheet. That being said, I have seen a couple features that the app sorely lacks that it would benefit greatly to have! The big one for me is lack of a proper inventory. There's an inventory there already, but it seems to be limited to equipment and such, and isn't really a true inventory. at the very least I think it would be incredibly useful to have a quick-select menu to common dnd items, the kind of thing you could find in any major city or town's shops, that you could pick and choose to add to your inventory. That way I can quickly navigate my character's massive amount of ball bearings or whatever else you would be collecting in bulk! That's really just a personal gripe though, overall this is a grat app and I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for an easy way to manage your character!
I feel the need to state how important this is as an online character sheet. It makes everything so easy to manage and so pretty to look at, while there are some little hairs like the lack of races, itโs easily made up for by the range of body types that disregard the need for more races. And several small things add up to make things so much more easy as a service. Like how you donโt have to put in your spell casting DC And damage bonus, you just choose its affiliates skill. Or how it automatically calculates passive wisdom and proficiencies. However the spell list is a tad limited and I found myself having to copy down spell descriptions to fill out my spell list, it did little to hamper the experience. And Iโm glad it leaves things like class, race, and spells open to add to and edit. So you can use third party resources. But if there was one large gripe I had with the product, which is fully worth the 10 dollars I spent on it, is the fact I canโt add my own ability scores. I understand itโs easier said than done to make requests like that but for optional rules and ability scores like honor or sanity it would be nice to have them. The idea of a custom class with a sanity based spell attack bonus immediately comes to mind but that is a privilege only afforded to physical character sheet users. That and the fact itโs all server and online based. While I trust the servers will remain safely maintained for years to come it would be nice to keep character data on a personal hard drive, if only to organize them differently or hide specific characters from my players.
