Ovia Parenting & Baby Tracker

The Ovia apps in general are really well done, informative, and helpful programs for families. The articles and resources provided are excellent and the interactive features engaging. The parental app in particular though is not as good as the pregnancy one (I’ve not used the fertility app yet). There are fewer helpful items such as symptoms lookup or safe medication lists (which for breastfeeding moms would be extremely helpful). The inability to really personalize what articles you’re shown is another big drawback. But to be honest the worst feature of this app isn’t really something Ovia can control. The key feature in this app is the “community forum” where users can anonymously ask questions and offer advice. This is a feature in all the Ovia apps, but it’s the predominant way of getting information in the Parenting app. The trouble with this community forum, compared to the other groups, is the constant drama and stupidity. The utter lack of common sense frequently displayed is baffling, and the un-monitored aspect permits a great deal of arguments as well as wrong (sometimes dangerous) information. You would think the pregnant community would be the breeding ground for cat fights and issues, but it isn’t, instead its here among the parents and it is shameful. But the only way I can see Ovia could take to correct this community issue is to delete the forum entirely and provide more articles, which at least would be more medically accurate than the forum quacks.

First I gotta say I love this app! I found it by using the Ovia Pregnancy app which was great too but basically like the rest, nothing spectacular. I decided to give the parenting app a try when my LO was getting out of the NICU I was so worried about his weight and what how much he was eating. He is formula fed but love the fact I can keep up with both very easily plus if I had twins it will keep up with them individually! Now I do wish there was just a couple “bonus” things on here like the measurements of the formula. There needs to be more then just ounces. I would like a ml, since he’s a preemie he doesn’t eat much and to properly keep up with it I have to google the decimals all the time which is annoying and I wish it had alarms for feeding that way it would notify me if he went over so much time. Again preemie and even though he’s 2.5 months old still can’t do on demand yet, but getting there. Other then those small things I love it and recommend it to anyone I know that’s going to have a baby.

Ovia has been an outstanding tool for me and my husband during our pregnancy and now as we continue to journey into parenthood, Ovia is still by our side. I look forward to the daily updates, articles, and LOVE how milestones are listed and pop up to remind us to look out for what our baby might be able to do as he grows week by week. I have learned the bulk of my pregnancy and parenting knowledge through Ovia and I suggest it to all of my friends who are also on the pregnancy/parenting journey. I’m not ashamed to say I check my Ovia app first when I’m worried about something regarding my parenting or my son’s progress/growth-(I do call his doctor for more pressing questions and concerns of course) but if I can’t find an answer on Ovia then I go to an internet search. More often than not I find an answer on the app. I personally really enjoy the tools and tracking that are available on the parenting app! I have effortlessly recorded his milestones as he makes them and can even add pictures to the milestone tag. My son is a preemie so tracking his progress and keeping a reliable log of his accomplishments has been a very helpful tool for us. Having all the milestones listed for us that we should be starting to see is great for us because we know what to expect, even though he is probably going to be a bit behind his full term peers in regards to when he actually gets there. Long review even longer, I’m obviously a huge fan of the app and can’t imagine how much more lost and clueless I would be as a first time mom without this awesome parenting tool.
