My Ion

The Ion is my first and only experience with an app as a thermostat. Got the new fancy furnace just a little over a year-and-a-half ago. The Ion wall thermostat has performed reliably throughout. I didn’t begin using the Ion app until approximately or year or so after the install. The app doesn’t seem to be engineered quite as well as the wall thermostat. A handful of times I’ve adjusted the thermostat setting, only to find later that it didn’t “take.” Currently I’m dealing with a “System Fault: 126 HIGH HEAT CYCLE ACTIVE” indication. It shows up on the wall thermostat, but when using the app, there is absolutely no indication of this. I CONSIDER THAT A MAJOR ISSUE, hence my 1-star review. Like others, I wish the app was flexible, and allowed for a smaller (or alternate) picture when holding one’s phone vertically.

The app for this thermostat is terribly dated; when it’s is actually connected and working you have to leave the app open for a period of time between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. Only then will it will refresh and change the temperature. If you change the temp and move on to something else it won’t work. It also has issues with connecting to the server which I’m assuming by other reviews must be on carriers end as I’m not the only one having the issue. It’s frustrating and annoying. Someone needs to address this and if you are in the market for a new hvac system make sure this platform isn’t being utilized! Has potential but as of now I’m not impressed. Ps for the love of god change the landscape orientation lock on the app and add a submit button or something to issue the command to the thermostat. Two thumbs down at this point.

I’ve had the ION Thermostat for about 6 months now and while it seems to function reasonably well (and I really do like the functionality) most of the time it quite often loses connection to the server so I have to de-install (remove) the ION app from my iPhone and them go into the APP STORE and re-install (add) the ION app again. While this normally works and continues to operate (usually for several days) I’m always having to periodically go back in and go through the same process again to get the app functioning properly back on my phone). It’s easy to do but very annoying!! :-( Also, on the ION app they need to name it ‘ION t-stat’ instead of just showing it as ION since there are other ION apps shown. I will gladly REPOST as 4 or 5 stars when this is ever updated by the developers. kc
