The app does not display any helpful information at all. Switching from Principal, which has a really well thought out app, has been disappointing. There’s some helpful data points that nearly everyone wants to see on a homepage. These data points are: current balance, vested balance, personalized rate of return, total gain/loss, and your estimated monthly retirement income. Finally you would want a graph showing your account growth with data points at every contribution so you can see progress over time and a retirement score showing the percent of your estimated monthly retirement income that you are currently at. Right now all you get on the JH app is your total balance and your score. From what I can see, there’s no way to access any graphs or charts on the app and you have to query your rate of return and total gain/loss every time you want to see it. It’s very difficult to navigate the app to find other data points that you need to effectively plan for your retirement. This shouldn’t be too much to ask for because it’s the exact same data that Principal displays on their home screen so it can easily be done. Really hope the app gets an overhaul, right now it’s worthless for planning for your 401k and that’s the entire point of the app.
I’ve been trying for over 2 weeks to open this app. Once it says “welcome to your plan” it then says “we’re sorry, we are experiencing technical difficulties, please try again later”. Even the website is having difficulties. It’s always so challenging to access my account and every time I need to, I end up having to call customer service. It’s frustrating to say the least. This last time I called customer service, he couldn’t even help me as I was already doing everything he instructed me to do, and still couldn’t access my account. He suggested to change my password as a last resort. I’m sick of changing my pw every time I need to access my account. I am considering transferring my funds to a different account altogether. There’s no point in using JH if I cannot access my accounts.
Apart from checking your balance and allowing you to change profile settings and contributions amounts, I don’t see what else this app can do for me. I can’t even check deposit history… sure they have statements, but only quarterly statements from the last quarter so I can’t even see what’s been deposited for months at a time. Overall, the fact that I can’t even see deposits makes this app somewhat useless. Seeing my account balance is the bare minimum, but I can already do that from any other 3rd party finance management app, so really there is no useful resources here. Very basic and disappointing.
