Sling: Employee Scheduling App

It's just like the ideal way to schedule everything, all the positions are clear and clean, and it's easy to use from the employee and boss standpoint, and every time I go to a new company, and I have to relearn all their stupid apps and systems that they use I find myself wishing that I had sling again. I still try to get employers I work for to use it today. The only thing I maybe which week would be having it so everything work related could be handled by it so you don't have to have 17 different apps for one job, and then the next place you go to you have to download a bunch of new apps if you ever change jobs all over again. It would be nice if there was just one app that had all of it and I kind of wish that sling was like that. Maybe they could do it like scheduling is free, but if you want to upgrade to W-2s and taxes and stuff like that, then the employer has to pay a small fee, to make it worth it from the app developer standpoint.

Everything about this app is amazing. I’m especially impressed with the beautiful user interface. BUT there is one function that is proving to be a nuisance and needs to be redesigned immediately. up employee unavailability function is mind numbing and not easy to set up. You have to select an “Effective From” date and then customize availability for the days (not dates) within that week. Why not just select the actual NUMERICAL DATES rather than Monday, Tuesday….etc. Also you have to create multiple sets because one set is only for up to 7 days. My employees always end up inputting their unavailability wrong and I don’t blame them for it. It’s too complex for no reason. It would be so much more straight forward if the app just presented a calendar and had you select the specific dates that you are unavailable for. Please just let us choose from a calendar or manually input the NUMERICAL DATE. Thank You.

The app is simple to use and the design is aesthetically pleasing, making it easy to see your shifts. However, there are a couple things that need fixed. Most notably broken is the widget; it simply displays, “We couldn’t find your shifts. Are you logged in the Sling app?”. This function worked previously on my iPhone 6 running iOS 9.3.3, but has never worked on my iPhone XS running iOS 12.0.1. This was the main way I checked my shifts, and it made it so much easier. I don’t know if the app version was different, or if there is just an unknown compatibility issue where the widget feature only works on some versions of iOS. Lastly, as mentioned by another reviewer, the notifications are inconsistent at best, and completely missing or useless at worst. Most of the time I forget I have it set to remind me of my upcoming shift, because it either doesn’t push a notification, or it notifies me when my shift is starting in under 5 minutes. While this has never caused me to be late to work (as it isn’t my primary method of time management and ultimately one should be responsible for themself in regards to getting to work), it would be nice to have peace of mind knowing you have a reliable backup alert. Overall, I enjoy using the Sling app to view and manage my shifts, and I hope to see improvements soon.
