Localeur

Working through the Localeur Austin lists. My wife and I are at Cosmic Coffee and it is AWESOME. I downloaded localeur on a whim. And then I kept it on my phone and actually started using it. It’s great for someone who just moved to a new city. I consult it almost every day when trying to find a place to eat, work remotely, etc. Can’t believe this service is free. It’s like if TripAdvisor all of a sudden started drinking fair trade coffee and stopped eating at Chili’s. It’s like having that cool friend who ALWAYS has the spot to go to, but this friend actually texts you back when you ask for suggestions.

I’m impressed by Localeur’s commitment to using only recommendations by people who actually live in the places they’re writing about. My current hometown is Medellín, Colombia, and even though I know quite a bit about other destinations, Localeur has (rightly, IMO) declined app content from me for anywhere but where I live. As a result, I have total confidence that when I pull up Localeur content for cities that I plan to visit, the recommendations I find will truly be a local’s take. That really sets Localeur apart and is reason #1 to check it out. I have had some issues with the login process, but that has been for adding recommendations, not for reading what’s there. The developers seem to be on top of bugs as they are identified. I’ll keep going back for authentically local takes on my travel destinations. Keep it up, Localeur!

I do wish more people knew about this app and could contribute more, because when a city has a lot recommendations, you really do find activities and businesses that no other website or service will tell you about. At its worst, I enjoy using this as a supplemental app to other, bigger, less curated ones. At its best, it makes me want to revisit places to hit up all the places I never knew about.
