I was browsing through the App Store looking for other pedometer based apps to gamify my active step counts. So many of these kind of apps just feel bloated, full of annoying ads or just unnecessarily complex. So I was pleasantly surprised when I happened to stumble upon this app. Seeing that it was 3 months old, I was excited to try out something new. As a new player, it was very inviting from the get-go and the objectives and UI design are really well laid out. As an enjoyer of RPGs, the sprite designs and gameplay really entice me personally but I don’t think it’s overly complicated even for players with little to no RPG experience. I see that the developer has been very active in patching and content updates since launch, and can’t wait to experience the current version of the app and see how it evolves in the future. Nice work! Highly recommend.
I’ve tried out a few walking or step apps, but this one is easily my favorite. The graphics are basic 8-bit style, and the object of the app is to take each step and turn it into experience points for your character. It feels great to just check in and let the app do the counting passively in the background. No long loading screens, no glitches from high graphics, and no need to constantly tell the app you are going to walk, it just knows you walk whenever you walk with the phone in a pocket. Simple and perfect.
Let us speak plainly of a small miracle disguised as an app. SideQuest does not merely count steps—it bestows meaning upon them. With each measured stride, it transforms the mundane act of walking into a pilgrimage of progress, a subtle but persistent call toward betterment. Here is no loud tyrant of notifications nor a gaudy spectacle of hollow rewards. Instead, it moves with restraint and intention, inviting the user into a world where motion is honored, consistency is rewarded, and effort—however humble—is acknowledged. Each quest unfolds like a whispered challenge, coaxing the body forward while the mind delights in purpose. Its design is clean, unburdened by excess, allowing focus to rest where it belongs: on the journey itself. The leveling system offers encouragement without demand, triumph without pressure. One walks not out of obligation, but out of quiet anticipation—wondering what small victory the next thousand steps might unveil. In an age crowded with apps that shout, SideQuest chooses to guide. It does not demand transformation overnight; it simply asks that you begin, and then continue. And in that persistence, something remarkable occurs. This is not merely a fitness app. It is a companion. A storyteller. A gentle reminder that progress is built one step at a time—and that even the simplest motion, when given meaning, can feel heroic.
