I have been using hoot for about three weeks now, and am benefitting from it. I have tried a few different apps in this space and have settled on this one. I’m looking for a tracking app to help me log meals and lose weight, but also one that guides me to eat better. Each meal you log in Hoot gives a nutrition score, and tips on how to make it better. So while my morning smoothie was relatively healthy, it could be even better with some spinach and chia seeds. Not something I didn’t know, but a good reminder. Tips are always given in an encouraging, non-judgemental manner. The daily nutrition scores are motivating and I’m trying to improve them. The logging via photo and voice/text is pretty impressive. Occasionally it will hiccup. What is nice is that the app will show you the assumptions it used to come to the calculation. You can review that and do a “quick adjust” such as “that was not ground beef, but chorizo” or “I had two servings.” Calories and macros are updated automatically. The developer is very open to feedback, and reached out to me personally for improvement ideas. One that I’d like to see is to make it easier to copy recent meals to today without first making it a favorite. He was in agreement and said others have requested this as well and is already under development. This is a solid app that will only get better with time. The premium subscription is worth the price when compared to similar offerings. Give it a try! You won’t be disappointed!
I am on a weight loss journey and my doctor wanted me to get a calorie tracker app. She told me most use My Fitness Pal. She told me not to pay for it though. She said it’s a waste of money and way over priced. Well she wanted me eating 1500 calories. I’m following my doctors orders! Well MFP required me to pay to change my calorie goal. So I did it. Ugh I hate that app. It’s so complicated and as a person that is AuDHD it was really overwhelming and discouraging. Well I moved on to Hoot. I saw the owl and thought it was cute. I paid way less for it and it is way less overwhelming. I had an issue with the app and got frustrated because it was working so well then one day it wasn’t. So I decided I’d try messaging them. To my surprise I got a response from a developer. That was crazy! I had no idea it was new. So I told him my issue and he fixed it!!! It was amazing. I enjoy giving him ideas of cool things that, I would enjoy if they added and he has helped fix any bugs I have come across. You can tell they really care. He even congratulated me when I lost 30lbs so far!!! I have really enjoyed getting to be a part of the beginning of this app. There are still lots of learning that the AI needs to do but I enjoy filling in my Macros myself to help it learn. I really love this app and encourage others to join in the fun of watching this app grow!!! I can’t wait to see what else is to come!!! Maybe we could get cool awards when we reach our goals like maybe we could personalize the app as we reach goals…?!? I think it would be cool if we could name our owl or change colors or earn stars or achievements or choose different animals. I really love the possibilities!
Really impressed so far and it’s just what I was looking for. Setup was pretty fast, I answered a few questions and Hoot gave me a personalized plan for calorie and macro targets. I then opted for the annual plan since the price felt super reasonable. I’ve only logged a handful of meals so far, but the photo logging is surprisingly accurate and easier than searching a database. My goal is to lose about 12lbs at a steady pace, so I’ll update my review one my streak is longer than 2 days…but early signs are promising.
