LEARN CHINESE w. CHINABUBBLES

I like the quizzes but the game is a little tricky. I'd rather tap on the right bubble than shoot something. I know which one is right. But a good app overall! I feel like I'm learning Chinese. Also the pronunciation seems helpful and sounds very much like a native speaker.

Wish this supported traditional as well as simplified. Other than that I Really like the design - helps me learn the characters, pinyin and pronunciation simultaneously. After playing the basic level for ten mins I was immediately convinced the $1.99 in app purchase to unlock more vocabulary/levels was worth it. The shooter game play is not especially interesting but I think that's actually a good thing as my brain is focusing on learning the characters. I likes the test format too - alternates between having me pick the character or pinyin - and I'm eager to learn both. Again just wish it had option to toggle to traditional (and maybe some sort of indicator that a given character has a different simplified vs. traditional form).

Having purchased quite a few Mandarin Chinese learning games, I know which I like to play and which I don't. I like this one. Along with Chinese Writer (and others by Train Chinese), this is the game I get the most out of and here's why. In this game you are presented with Chinese text bubbles that are written in Simplified Chinese Characters. You are to shoot these bubbles, once prompted, with a non-moving spaceship at the bottom of the screen. It works most of the time but is so slow you have to shoot one bubble length in front to hit the correct one. Once you get the timing down, it shouldn't be a big deal though. I like that the words in each section are limited, but I would like to have more words per exercise for more of a challenge. I also like that the words are given twice, once showing the pinyin, character, and spoken along with the meaning in English, and once with just the spoken word. I kinda wish I could turn on/off the pinyin for more Character work, however. The word lists look extensive, but I can't seem to get past the first segment in each, even with perfect scores on each level. That's ok as I'm having fun playing the current levels, but I'd like to have what looks like the app is meant to have. One last thing... I don't like how aggressive the app seems to be in regards to asking for app reviews. Nearly every screen asks for it with popups. Not cool
