OurRitual: Couples Support

Honestly, I wanted to love it as the price is definitely lower versus competitors but the app is so buggy. Constantly during our initial 4 week plan we kept losing access to the group chat with our provider. We were told to just email support about it. Support took well over a week to respond to our first support inquiry. Then there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to access the session as a group as you can only access everything via the mobile app (not on a desktop) so you waste precious minutes of your already short 40 minute session just working out receiving a Zoom link from your provider so that everyone in a couples session can access the call. The homework/pathway work for couples is very canned and a bit AI feeling. It’s not terrible but it certainly is not personalized in any sort of a way. It’s just predetermined homework that every couple would receive for a very broad subject like “Communication Issues” for example. Then there were multiple times during our first 4 weeks that we had to uninstall and reinstall the app just to get the update so that the app would function at all as it doesn’t give a simple update option within the App Store. On top of all of this…whenever we decided not to continue with this service and tried to cancel our account, we were unable to do so automatically despite that this is how it’s advertised “Cancel anytime” but we actually had to email the very slow responding support to get this done. I’m glad I didn’t wait until the last minute or we’d have been charged again while waiting for support to cancel our subscription. The reason for 2 stars instead of 1 is that we did like our provider fine but overall the entire app experience is enough of a nightmare to justify avoiding this and paying a higher price elsewhere for sure.

The convenience of the online app and virtual sessions make it easy to integrate into life. Also the emotional check-ins helped us navigate a major conflict in a way that helped us to de-escalate and repair much easier than before therapy. We feel like Ritual is helping our relationship grow stronger and more connected.

Updating this as after an additional email and writing this review the team reached out offered to pause my account and refund me for the months not used. 4 starts only because the app is sometimes glitchy. Signed up for 3 month of sessions. We enjoyed them but did not realize that they continue to charge you after your 3 months is up. Myself and my partner are in the middle of a huge life change so focus was toward other things. I reached out after the 5th month realizing they charged for two additional months explaining that things were too hectic at the moment and for a refund since there was clear evidence that the app wasn’t even opened. The reply I got was that refunds are only for brand new customers. I would have utilized the service again but due to the lack of customer service we will go somewhere else. Make sure to cancel timely or they will continue to charge you and clearly have no interest in working with current customers - only to grab as much money as possible.
