This LiDAR scanner works pretty well. It’s easy to use, feels very reliable although with some very minor capture mistakes. It would be great to see some of the extra features that Polycam offers. For this price, it’s a really solid app.
This app used to be a free, loose wrapper around Apple’s Object Capture framework. I scanned a few things and they came out great. Now the dev updated it to require a subscription, and I can’t even access my old scans without paying. I’m not inherently against paying for subscriptions, even if most of the actual functionality is basically copied directly from Apple’s developer examples, but don’t offer it for free and then lock up people’s content.
Frequent app crashes, especially when just scrolling down through the library to get to the latest project. As long as you limit the scope of the project, the app functions better than a lot of the other free ones, it is just prone to crashing as soon as the dataset is too large. Unfortunately there is 0 warning and you won’t know until it is processing. If the crashing with the library was fixed, then it would be 5 stars, as it does what you want it to do. If there was an internal measure or warning if your scan is too getting too big, that would be nice to help prevent crashing.Right now I cannot access my latest projects and the library crashes as soon as I scroll down a little.
