I thought it couldn’t get any better, and I have never been more glad to be proven wrong. The same simple mechanics as the first game, as well as a few more tacked on, but wonderfully done - not just thrown in so the developers could say they made a unique sequel. The story is still captivating, still masterfully told. The graphics and exact execution of certain mechanics are both infinitely better than in ALitS, which doesn’t make the first game obsolete, just shows the developers’ improvement! (And means I typically replay the first game before replaying the second, even if I’m just going for certain achievements or speedrun times in ABP, so I can have the full experience all over again and be blown away by the smoothness of control in the second.) Overall, if ALitS is 10/10, ABP is, like, 11/10. Would 100% recommend to anyone asking!
Okay so first off, this review will have spoilers so don’t look if you don’t wanna get spoiled! So…I downloaded this game thinking, “Awh! It’s just a lil cat game!” But oh man I was wrong. There’s SO MUCH more to it! The levels are really fun, but frustrating at times, the story actually made me cry, and I love how simple but complex the game is! I’ll talk about the story in this section. So, this game looks really nice and cutesy, but it’s so sad actually…I was confused about how it was meant to have a story, and throughout 1-6, I thought that the story was just, “Oh no little kitty cat is being left out of their friend group” but once again, that’s not the case. At first, when the green cat got “fixed” and left, I didn’t care that much. But when I kept going and going, and the rest of the cats started disappearing, Tears were streaming down my face. I know I may just be sensitive, but still. The fact that the main character we play as is just left all alone by herself, having to keep herself entertained without anybody…that hit so hard because of how relatable it is. She was getting so so exhausted, but she kept going through the levels just to see her friends again, and her friends just kept putting her through levels and levels and levels.. Also, when I saw the cats “giving her something to remember them by” (example, the blue cat appearing when she becomes a “liquid”, and the red cat appearing when she gets hurt) just made me SO SAD. I did not expect this game to be so sad.. I can’t help but cry when I see the dialogue. I just feel so bad for the cat being left all alone.. I’m pretty sure the end is meant to like, trying to move on from your friends disappearance or death, by getting away from the whole world into your conscious. Please play this game. It’s one of the only 2 games that ever made me cry, and it’s really well made.
I didn’t expect much but this game is definitely good! The plot was ok since I could relate it to my life a bit but some of it was a bit overwhelming. Her friends like her but then now she doesn’t like them and then she leaves them and then she likes them and it’s just all over the place, but I can see the plot having potential. Overall, I love this game, gameplay is a bit hard but manageable for me, and some parts are a bit hard to get past, but I love this game! My first impressions of this game were really good tbh. I think this game is very creative and underrated, I seriously think this game has potential into getting big! I also love the feature where u can make ur own custom! Really enjoyable game, just some pros and cons.
