Software not good

I’ve been using this for a couple months now and get more disappointed each week. First, while the graphs are nice you cannot zoom them. It’s difficult to see details. But the worst thing is how it handles when you move. If the ring looses contact with your finger for a couple of seconds it vibrates until it reconnects, even if it connects only 5 seconds later. The software assumes you woke, took off the ring, put it back on and started a new sleep session. If this happens 2 or 3 times in the night the software does not put the sessions together. You have to look at each one individually. This is quite dumb. But even worse, the graphs are not accurate. Session 2 will often show the same graphs as session 1, which means the data for session 2 is lost. If you don’t move during the night at all then this will work for you. But hand movement can easily bump the ring causing it to loose contact for a couple of seconds. Very annoying. This last week, twice it reported, “no data” in the morning. No reason or explanation, just no data despite wearing like every other night. Less reliable each week.

Use fingertip sensor!

I’m a research scientist, so when I was getting high apnea readings with the ring, I tried moving the sensor around to different places on my fingers while monitoring the data and discovered that the readings are much more reliable on the fingertips. I bought the fingertip sensor holders and my blood oxygen readings have been steady and normal ever since under the same sleep conditions. I do not recommend the ring sensor holders, but with the fingertip holders, this is a reliable home blood oxygen sensor. Be sure to buy the version with the fingertip sensor holders! The app is easy to use and creates lovely graphs but there are a couple of quirks… chiefly that you have to take the sensor off, place it on the charger, close the app, and reopen the app to synch the data. It would be nice if you could enter your age and elevation on your profile and have the device adjust the normal oxygen range, but that’s easy enough to do yourself. All in all I feel my money was well spent, but if I were ordering now I would order the version with the fingertip sensors from the start, because the ring doesn’t hold the sensor on the correct part of the finger for reliable oxygen monitoring.

Not as Good as Fitbit

The Fitbit app does a much better job of recording sleep modes. It tells you specifically how long you are in Light, Deep, REM and Awake modes during sleep. It also shows graphics exactly when you were in each mode. It compares your percentage sleep to a range typical for someone of your gender and age. As far as I know, this hardware collects most or all of the same data. But doesn’t show it in the app. This app is better because it gives oxygen saturation; Fitbit does not do that. It’s a disappointment to me. I bought it because I didn’t want to wear a Fitbit anymore. But, I think I now need to get a new Fitbit to replace my broken one. And, BTW, it literally took over a month from the time I ordered it until the time I got it.
