We are a few weeks into using the app, and some things we like are the ability for both my husband and I to add meals and edit the grocery list, and the recipes are all in the app so if I added a recipe but won’t be the one home to cook it, he can easily pick it up and vice versa. When the pantry feature is tracking well, it also does a great job just telling us what we need versus what we have, which is great. Our main frustration so far is with the grocery list. It isn’t at all customizable for your grocery store. And the categories can’t be changed. There’s no frozen food section, for example. So things like frozen vegetables show up in the produce section. Also, none of our primary grocery stores are available, so we keep having to skip past that prompt which the app seems to find annoying. And I wish I could tell it to just move a meal from last week to next week if I didn’t get around to cooking it, but that doesn’t work. It does a great job importing recipes from the web, and I have found a few in its recipe collection that we’ve used. The updating your pantry feature is also odd. It also keeps asking me to update items in my pantry after each meal that are not on the recipe. I don’t understand that part. I wish that was a little more intuitive. But we are still using it and hoping we find some work around for these things as we go, because we still value the things it’s doing well.
Update- after trying many other options- this is the GOAT. I was an avid cheerleader of this app as I've severe ADHD and am a Covid long hauler trying to work remotely in a pandemic and parent. It was everything I needed after my late diagnosis almost killed me as id forget to eat being remote. Long Covid means I need to overhaul my diet but it's just too much because (seriously) I also got a TBI thrown in complicating it more. So this WAS perfect... Then I hyper focused and planned an entire month and it wouldn't add to my cart- $840 groceries. So I spent hours and- nope- my paid subscription failed me. I HAD to order groceries and then ran out of time for the delivery and spent the entire night adding by hand- but ADHD (I messed up) so instead I had hundreds of groceries without one single complete recipe being purchased and went to waste. I message support “they’ll look into it..” without fail I’ve lost $ with this product meant to save me $ because it WILL NOT transfer to my cart properly. So I’m paying for a service that doesn’t work and instead makes me create waste? In addition to that anytime I upload a recipe to Cooklist it freezes my device. I’ve an iPhone 13 pro and thought it was my phone but nope- it’s Cooklist. I’m a clinician so freezing my phone up because I uploaded a recipe can’t happen. This was a great idea BUT I’ve seen no attempt to rectify any issues I’ve had nor any accountability or even “sorry.” I would highly suggest not using the paid service until they’ve worked out the kinks. It can be great but it’s not yet ironed out.
I’ve gotten used to using this app pretty regularly since I no longer use a meal box service. Having it import my groceries (admittedly, it works better for online purchases/pick-ups) has truly helped me easily distracted brain to keep track of my kitchen. I would rave about it even if that is all it did but, I can search for recipes based off my current ingredients (and substitutes!), or look for a recipe then add missing ingredients to a shopping list and price compare to different stores! I used this a lot more at first just to verify if it was accurate but, now it’s more of a comfort & motivator to keep using the app in case I need it for an immediate random event. The ability to set up a meal plan with new and imported recipes from practically any website(also very easy to accomplish), then add certain items to a grocery list(with the measurements grouped together) has been the experience I’ve looked for but never thought it would be in just one app. There are so many features, I feel like if you think of something that you want in a grocery/pantry app this one has it. I haven't used it yet but i can add other people to the app so they can update it too. And recently I can even choose which subbed ingredient I want. I support this app and it’s development team. Thank you for making this available!
