I had been trying to switch to a carnivore diet for approximately a month and a half. I initially loved the immediate end to being hungry all the time. That alone was motivating enough for me. From out of nowhere came an ad for Formula. While I am reluctant to sign up for a paid app, as often times it seems difficult to get out of. I didn’t have much weight that I wanted to loose and the app allowed to sign up for a four week subscription, at a reasonable price, so I decided to try it. It was an excellent decision! The app is very easy to log daily food and water consumption, instantly updating where you stand on fat, protein, carbs and calories while gently supporting my choices and efforts, at every entry, while also offering additional suggestions for better options to try. My success has been well beyond my expectations and hopes as I consistently loose weight every day! On average a pound a day. The interactive ability to get answers to my questions was easy and extremely timely and supportive in answering. The level of “insights” offered is educational and outstanding! I was expecting my weight goal of loosing 10 pounds, in the past the most difficult to loose, to be met in my four week trial. I am easily on target to meet that goal in one week! Everyday I become more knowledgeable about my health and a carnivore diet. This is an excellent app and I highly recommend for the support and success it offers for those interested in an intentional weight and healthy way of eating.
Prior to downloading the app, onFacebook, this app was advertised with Biblical Scripture stating it was going to teach what foods God would have us eat and why. I whole heartedly downloaded the app because it was something out of the box besides meal planning and weights like every other weight loss app. There is nothing mentioned inside the app about scripture or fasting and truthfully, I would not have downloaded it in the first place. Now having the app, it is nice. 4/5 stars. It is for meal planning, recipes and weight loss. The best feature of this app is when you enter a meal, the app RESPONDS! It is incredible! For example, if I enter I had a sandwich with chips, it celebrates the good ingredients and makes offers replacement ideas for the next time I eat this meal. It will recommend I replace the chips with cucumber slices and add fiber by using whole grain bread. I’ve only had the app for a few days but so far, it is helping me make real substitutes that will last. If the app did incorporate biblical resources as advertised, I would 100% give five stars.
I kept the 4-week trial for the 4 weeks but canceled before the full price kicked in. Okay but not worth the full price. What I like: A few good recipes that I’ll keep, some pretty good articles with basic info about the diet (mine was Mediterranean), an accurate calorie/macros calculator, a fairly good database of foods, and an easy-to-use barcode reader for foods that aren’t there. What I dislike: very few recipes, which apparently aren’t synced with the daily log: it’s weird to enter one of the app’s own recipes into the log and be cautioned about ingredients that aren’t even in that recipe. When I tried (several times) to create a recipe, following the app’s instructions, it crashed every time. Same thing when I tried to enter nutritional info for a food not in the database. Also, the green, yellow, and red dots on the calendar are supposed to tell you if you’ve stayed within calories and macros for the day, but they glitch frequently: I’ve gotten a red dot for exceeding protein by two grams, but I’ve also gotten a green dot when I exceeded all macros by 10 grams. The most annoying thing is that the AI cheerleader looks only at individual meals, not the entire day. If I’m planning to have salmon for dinner, I’ll want to go light on protein and fat earlier in the day, but as I log those meals the AI tells me to “add a handful of nuts or a drizzle of oil” or “increase your serving of lean protein.” There are programs out there that will calculate your entire day along each meal. Both are needed.
