AutoSnore: Snoring Recorder

I paid $5 for this, and it is genuinely unusable. It detected one “snore,” which was very clearly me speaking to my wife, while confidently labeling ordinary bedroom sounds as things like gunfire, subway trains, synthesizers, thunder, timpani, trucks, waterfalls, bee buzzing, and bowling impacts. A toilet lid dropping was classified as “music,” and it reported 32 mysterious “gasps” even though the clips contained no audible sound at all. Why would you even allow it to tag things “gunfire?” Did the developers forget to cut their AudioSet tags down before production? The playback interface is somehow worse: once a 30-second clip starts, there is no apparent way to stop it. Tapping the volume icon restarts the clip instead of silencing it, while the previous clip keeps playing underneath it. The audio continues even after leaving the screen or opening another app. None of the classifications I checked were accurate, the snore detection was wrong, and basic playback is broken. This feels less like a finished snore-tracking app and more like a malfunctioning machine-learning demo that charges admission.

Without a bedroom partner, I have been unable to answer my doctor’s questions about my snoring patterns. Not only does this app capture that very well, it correlates it to my sleeping stages in AutoSleep. I would have rated it five stars if it had better integration with AutoSleep and podcast listening. I’d like to see the app start and stop its data capture automatically like AutoSleep. It also does not capture data if I’m playing a podcast after starting it. I often fall asleep to short podcasts and it’s disappointing to discover that snoring data is not captured after the podcast ends.

Bought this blindly because I really admire AutoSleep and the developer, they don’t play the subscription game (except for one app), and their layouts and info are very well presented. However, I’ve used Autosnore a couple days and find it annoying so far. Requires one more thing to remember and do prior to sleeping, really should plug in phone (which I try and avoid due to EMF in sleep area). But mostly I’m finding that it doesn’t seem to differentiate noises (yet). As someone who sleeps with a CPAP, I’m getting mostly garbage data at the moment. I might try another location, but I fear that this noise won’t allow it to pick up any actual snoring. And as for the increasingly complex pre-sleep duties, at this point maybe the developer could create some downloadable shortcuts to use to just push once and enable sleep focus and autosnore. Or better yet find a way for it to tap into Autosleep’s condition or any other method of avoiding opening yet another app every night just before sleep. I appreciate this developer and $5 bucks is a donation from me if this doesn’t get fixed. Hopefully the developer expands on this idea and makes it as useful as Autocleep is to everyone I share it with.
