I have been using the app for several years, and generally have little/no complaints when it comes to managing my accounts. The gaps in the product/design come in when you decide to have your dependents/minorsuse alliant AND 1. Want to have visibility to see their account/transactions OR 2. Want to set up a reoccurring transfer to their account The lack of intuitiveness, has caused me to call when trying to complete either task. When it comes to making a dependent account visible when I am logged into my account, I have had to call both times for instruction because it has to be done from the minor’s account, and the location on where to go is not obvious. When it comes to making it so I can schedule a transfer, the functionality has gone into the toilet. When I set this up a couple years ago for my oldest son, it was easy. I could make a transfer and then set it to be on a monthly basis. When I went to set it up recently for my other son, the app would not allow me to set a monthly transfer to my son (it says that it cannot bc the date is in the future). When I called support to ask for assistance they told me I need to do it from a different screen which requires me to enter in my child’s member number. On what planet would anyone expect to need to enter their child’s member number information when I already made it so that they are visible from my account? Not even sure yet if support told me to do the correct thing. Can you PLEASE make it easier for parents to setup/manage their dependents accounts? The current solution is painful and makes me question why I used Alliant when it works seamlessly for other banks.
Updated - changed from 1 to 5 stars. Problem is resolved, app seems back to normal. I’ve used this app for years and typically don’t have any problems. I like having it on my phone, it’s generally a useful app. But for a couple months now I haven’t been able to log in via the mobile app, not with Face ID nor with normal password. This means the mobile app is completely unusable for me. I’m still able to login like normal through a browser. I’ve been waiting for this major bug to be addressed, now I’m writing a review to draw attention to this pretty big problem. Will update this review once this is fixed. I’m on an iPhone 16. I’ve been on 18.1.1, now 18.2. I was previously on an iPhone X with highest iOS still supported (16 something), so I thought it might be me, but a new phone/iOS didn’t fix it.
If you’ve opened a new account, don’t expect to be able to use it for anything at all for about a month. After that month, don’t expect to be able to use it for anything serious. There will be full-week holds on your deposits that exceed a rather low threshold. In my opinion you’re best off with a major online free checking account at a bank like Schwab, with an Alliant or some local CU account on the side for the sole purpose of cash deposits at ATMs (because you cannot make cash deposits at Schwab). Otherwise, I could not recommend this as a banking solution for any particular reason. Alliant positions itself as a crutch—and so it shall be used. From their support: “”” It typically takes 1-2 business days for external transfers to post to your account. New members are subject to a seven business day hold on all deposited items for the first 30 days of membership. ACH deposits to new accounts will have a three business day hold, as well. After the first 30 days, in most instances, when depositing personal and business checks on an account in good standing (and where the items being deposited are believed to be payable), we make the first $225 immediately available. Up to $5525 will generally be available for withdrawal no later than the second business day after the day of your deposit, with the remainder available after the seventh business day. Business days are Monday through Friday, with the exception of Federal holidays. Despite the hold, you will receive the associated dividend from the original date of deposit. “””
