I have been using this app for a couple of years without issue. Honestly I do not interact with banking much other than auto-deposits for my paycheck and ACH to pay bills so I may not be the best judge of this app, but it looks and feels top notch aside from two functions. Lately I have had trouble with a couple of mobile check deposits that apparently had a non-standard MICR line. The app gave me an error that indicated that the checks had already been deposited, when the problem is a known system limitation with that type of check according to support. While dealing with this issue I sent upwards of 5 messages through the app’s messaging function while reporting and talking to support about the issue, two of those messages disappeared when I clicked send and never showed up in my sent messages. The interface for viewing correspondence is unintuitive. It first pulls up the original message in a thread rather than the most recent, displays where you are in the thread only by number (e.g. 1 out of 5), and you swipe right (not left as feels natural) to move through the later responses one message at a time. In short, it is an unfamiliar and limiting interface. Fortunately their browser interface is intuitive, though the mobile deposit feature requires me to save (and then recommends to immediately delete) pictures of checks to my device, which seems unsafe so I would prefer to continue using the app for that. Would love to see improvements to these features, easily a 5 star rating with these improvements.
I understand that this is for privacy and security’s sake, but when it times me out just because I’ve switched over to use my calculator or answer a text, I get so irritated. Paying bills, managing to make sure everything is accounted for and switching back and forth between the calculator, and safari to make sure bills are being paid on time, is hassle enough. I am super OCD about managing my money and do it the old fashioned way, with a transaction register, so I am often switching back and forth between screens. Having to log back in AND THEN click the “load more transactions” option a million times is EXTREMELY frustrating. PLEASE fix this and I will have zero complaints about this app. Edit: I took out another star because 9 times out of 10 when I try to make a mobile deposit, the app is so buggy it makes me nervous for my money. When I try to take a picture of the front of the check it’ll say “use dark background” a million times, even if the surface I have the check on is black. Then I have to wait for the “manual caption” option to take a picture of the back because the app keeps saying “flip check”, no matter how many times I turn it around and try again. Then after minutes of trying again and again, it’ll finally capture both pictures and THEN completely freeze and close. My husband is in the military and I have been trying to damndest with this app because I LOVE First Tech, but I HATE this app. We’re moving to a place that only has co-op compatible ATMs, unfortunately. So if First Tech doesn’t significantly improve this app, we will have to switch all of our banking to USAA.
I've been using this mobile banking app for over three years now. I can do whatever I need to do re: banking, but this latest version seems a step or two backwards. Previous versions let one use touch ID to login. That's gone now. REALLY WANT then to bring Touch-ID login back!!! Previous versions of the mobile deposit feature worked really great! You entered your details, manually snapped a picture of the front and the back of the check, making sure you had all four corners within the boundaries of the picture, and Bingo! Your deposit was in. This version automatically snaps the pictures when it thinks the four corners are within the boundaries. You'd think that would be a good idea, but actually it's a lot harder to work with, and a lot harder to get an acceptable picture. Sometimes newer isn't really better.
