I stumbled upon Warspear around the year 2018 as I searched for games that worked natively on Linux. Little did I know that this would turn into a chronic addiction, with real world politics, drama, intrigue, friendships and arch nemesi galore. This being an action game, with a very fast engine that can handle many hundreds of players during large events without any lag and super slick control execution, there are sharks, so if you talk the talk, you better walk the walk, or you’ll get arena blocked, your castle (if you have one) taken, KOSed in PVP zones (there are many of them, over 80% of the entire game map), and generally have a miserable experience. Which is why players on particular servers tend to form political alliances between guilds, and even cross faction alliances (elves and MC) which is particularly problematic as the game simply doesn’t have the capability to eliminate this type of perfectly human politicking behavior. This is the only down side of this game, and situations across servers can vary dramatically. But make no mistake, I’ve played all the fancy MMORPGs with nice graphics, but they can’t compare to the level of real time action battle strategy that is required to dominate PVP in Warspear. The meat of the game is at the highest arena levels, where you will need to invest a few hundred dollars into your character, but I assure you that it’s worth it, because the entertainment that you will get will be unparalleled anywhere else in terms of pure good action 2D PVP. That’s a mighty fine niche to take and Warspear takes the cake. But I did warn you, don’t start playing unless you want your life turned upside down, as the competition is fierce and never sleeps and even having a big fat wallet isn’t going to save you from massive painful fun coming your way.
I’m sure you see the reviews of “this used to be good in its prime” If I could elaborate for you guys a little bit in a positive way. I’ve been playing off and on for years and years, I keep remembering this game warmly with nostalgia and redownloading year after year. Only to stop playing a day or two later. Honestly the reality of the gameplay now is a lot different than how I want it to be...I want to have that feeling of “man this is awesome I love this game again” but it’s like I’m chasing a high I can never get again. The sense of community is not as strong as I remember it at all, I once spent 3 days trying to give potions away to random people to make friends and I found 1 nice person after 3 days of talkin to tons of people. The chat rooms are just numbers and noise, shorthand requests and advertisements. People insulting eachother being toxic, just really guys I don’t know why but it’s gone downhill for whatever reason. But, the fact of the matter is that you guys have a lot of people like me who remember this game fondly, and love the mechanics and how everything comes together. I know it’s no easy task to make a new game, but guys I’m telling you you’ve captured our hearts here. This game is personal to alot of us. I remember playing at my moms house before she died, I remember playing to take my mind off the world after she died and I want to feel that again. Make a new game guys, new classes races character, everything, but similar graphics. We will EAT IT UP. You’ll get tons of money from the pay to play community I bet. Think about it.
When this game was in its prime, it was fun. As they increase the max level, which at one point I was at max level, the playing goes downhill. I use to spend money on this game and try to get the best +10 equipment. As soon as they kept upping the levels, making unfair changes within the characters and not making level 18-21 quests easier to complete (max is 31?) I knew that this game lost it. I use to love their attention to detail but I feel the devs forget what it’s like to be low level. Two level 20’s can get killed by one level 31. Is that fun? No. They just stand right by the respawn statue and keep killing you. Nice devs. I suggest if you like playing games like this check out Revolution. Leveling up is fun and there is a more even playing field. Sorry Warspear, I enjoyed playing you for hours, no one plays you anymore. It’s only better with a bunch of players.
