I’ve never felt the need to write a review on any of the apps I’ve placed on my iPad or my iPhone. I finally had to write it on this. Honestly, the older one worked OK. I installed this new one so that I could do OTA updates. Viofo should be embarrassed that they would put out such a poor application. I’ve tried every fix that I could find on the Internet and even head to Google AI find a couple that I did not and they all failed resolve the crashing when I try to get into the phone using the app. I’m able to connect to it, but then can’t do anything otherwise it crashes. Viofo advertises OTA updates along with being able to access the video, but sadly, this is not the case at least in my case. If I could write this less than one star I would. With the amount of cameras that they sell, you would think they could pay at least one software engineer to write a decent application
I like the feature that enables you to monitor your cards battery voltage while it didn't park in your garage totally powered down. I have the HK-6 wiring harness which enabled this feature in a to unlocking the hybrid parking mode. But overall the app has a lot of issues with connectivity. Primarily the App disconnects from the dash cam hardware constantly, only managing to run for one to two minutes before it disconnects again. This happens over and over again rendering this latest app unusable for all practical purposes. In addition to the connectivity issues, the live video feed from any of the three camera cameras is plugged by significant latency of between 5 and 10 seconds behind the actual real world events occuring on the road in front of you. It's become a major distraction while driving and as a result I don't consider it safe to use this app while operating a motor vehicle. Pick up all of these problems I have been using the older VIOFO Dashcam app instead. While the older app lacked some of the features I mentioned above it does not have the disconnection issues or significant latency issues making it a much better and safer choice when interfacing with the dash cam hardware during normal operation. Hopefully VIOFO manages to get all of these significant bugs out of this particular app sooner rather than later. I have to test all of these issues with VIOFO tech-support and supplied them with operation log from the application for them to review in the hopes that they can identify the cost of these issues and correct them in the next update. Until then I cannot recommend this app for anything other than monitoring your car voltage while it is parked and everything is powered down.
I recently bought an A229 pro. I downloaded the original Viofo app (not this app) that was presented in my setup manual. It worked, but wasn’t super impressed with user functionality. I realized my new camera had an outdated firmware version so I started googling how to do that. I then read dated late January an article on the Viofo website about a new and improved app (Viofo Dashcam, the app that I’m writing the review for). I think that this is a better app for user functionality, especially with the ability to update firmware from the phone/app. It seems like it all flows smoother too compared to the other app. For anyone reading this, Viofo Dashcam is the updated, new, app. For a new user, this was somewhat confusing, thus not getting full stars at the moment.
