Reviews: What People Think About Plex Photos

I was forced to download this because they removed pictures from the main app. I DON’T WANT MORE APPS! I read a few plex forums where they claimed this was the best way to best show your pictures (i.e. The right app for the right content) but that’s baloney. This app is terrible in that it is bare and featureless. My biggest gripe is no download option. I used to look up old photos from my library and download them to my phone to text them, email them, you know actually do stuff with the photos, not just look at them. It’s like this app locks away MY photos. Was disappointed that I was forced to download this and then even more disappointed when I tried to do a couple things. Just wow.

I would much prefer the all in one app back. But if I have to have it separate then please make it better! Can’t watch videos in landscape mode, the video just stops if I try to watch landscape. It’s all about maximizing screen real estate! When looking at photos I want to get rid of the the header bar at the top of the screen! There should be a way to see nothing but the picture or video since phone screens are small. Header never going away is bothersome. Needs video controls, right now if I touch the video at all or try to use controls it just stops and I have to start it again. The app is fairly snappy and seems to run smoothly enough so those basics are okay, we just need basic video features and a completely full screen mode! Then go from there. Right now I have to go to the hard drive and use the computer programs to look at my photos/videos as plex app is too klunky still…

For the use case of moving your photos from a cloud service like Apple or Google photos, it’s intriguing that Plex is providing a method to access on your personal media server. The app feels like a Plex product, with subtle animations and theming, but is clearly lacking in features that I hope will come: search by (anything), a timeline of photos exists, but no way to jump to dates, forcing impossibly long scrolls, lack of any album creation. A good start on a refresh, but I’d feel better knowing what the roadmap for Plex photos is, and how well supported its growth will be since Plex has a history of abandoning promising features in the past.
