This app was originally promising when it came out. But the lack of quality of life improvements make it terrible to use. I don’t use plex to download photos but to just view them and this app has some major problems. Any photo that you view is going to have a titlebar that take up a quarter of the screen/photo that gets really annoying. There is not setting to change the behavior to hide it like any other photo app. I was hoping that it would at least improve over time and get some extra features but having used it at launch and came back to as of time writing this review. The only thing they did was make it look a little bit prettier. I have since switched to emby (after trying out jellyfish first but that started to become glitchy in some parts of the app and unusable) it is a much better experience. Being able to filter photos by tags that are in the photo itself. Add tags to folders. Being able to set up the cover folder in the file itself instead of selecting every folder and setting it manually when the app on the server eventually crashes and needs to be reset. AND BEST OF ALL I CAN SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE BY ITSELF. It seems that plex just made this app so that they can side line any investment into photo storage part of plex and focused on tv and movie streaming. Which is sad because everyone else has already added everything that people want to there apps and they just need to copy them and combine it all together into one package. Just want to look up photos when I forget the title of the photo. And not have to spend days tagging everything and customizing everything only for the app to glitch out and have to do everything again.
I would much prefer the all in one app back. But if I have to have it separate then please make it better! Can’t watch videos in landscape mode, the video just stops if I try to watch landscape. It’s all about maximizing screen real estate! When looking at photos I want to get rid of the the header bar at the top of the screen! There should be a way to see nothing but the picture or video since phone screens are small. Header never going away is bothersome. Needs video controls, right now if I touch the video at all or try to use controls it just stops and I have to start it again. The app is fairly snappy and seems to run smoothly enough so those basics are okay, we just need basic video features and a completely full screen mode! Then go from there. Right now I have to go to the hard drive and use the computer programs to look at my photos/videos as plex app is too klunky still…
I was forced to download this because they removed pictures from the main app. I DON’T WANT MORE APPS! I read a few plex forums where they claimed this was the best way to best show your pictures (i.e. The right app for the right content) but that’s baloney. This app is terrible in that it is bare and featureless. My biggest gripe is no download option. I used to look up old photos from my library and download them to my phone to text them, email them, you know actually do stuff with the photos, not just look at them. It’s like this app locks away MY photos. Was disappointed that I was forced to download this and then even more disappointed when I tried to do a couple things. Just wow.
