Tachimanga

I downloaded this app after a friend recommended it for offline reading (helpful during travel). It’s a great option for finding manga (etc.) for a “Read List,” but I’ve noticed that while some series I read are already complete or have more episodes out elsewhere, Tachimanga won’t have the full series or all episodes available. There is a Premium option, so that may be why. A little inconvenient though. Secondly, I understand that advertisements can help pay the developers, but beware that the ads displayed are not always appropriate. Especially the AI adds (Always a young woman and an older man making out. To everyone developing AI and advertising it: STOP USING WOMEN’S BODIES and INAPPROPRIATE SUBJECTS TO ADVERTISE.) If considering this app for preteen/teen use, I would highly suggest you find some other application to use. Finally, while performing some “phone cleansing,” I’ve noticed that there is always a Tachimanga in my Files app that I DID NOT download or APPROVE. It usually contains a few folders titled, for instance, “left to right, right to left,” or “top to bottom.” These contain zip files. When clicked, the zip files contain random photos (scenery, city alleyways, couple enjoying a view, cat leaping off some ledge, Labubus, etc.). I’ve seen nothing inappropriate in the file, but I don’t appreciate Tachimanga downloading things onto my phone without my awareness. It’s a security breach, and I screenshot and track as I continue deleting its downloads (the file reappeared after I initially deleted it). So, (1) more exploratory than fully functional; (2) unfiltered ads; (3) suspicious activity. Download at your own risk, I guess.

I have a suggestion that would make the app better and more amazing: adding a feature to translate manga pages and other content using AI, allowing us to read comics from any source we want and in the language we specify. This is achieved through a button located in the advanced options. Activating this button automatically translates any page we open into the language we previously selected. This allows us to read a variety of comics or even export them to the application, which will then recognize and translate the text. With this feature, I guarantee it will become one of the most sought-after applications, indispensable for comic and manga enthusiasts, as language currently presents a significant obstacle, preventing them from fully enjoying the application and forcing them to use a browser and scanning tools to translate the comics.

After setup, this has been the best manga reader I’ve ever used - and I’ve gone through a LOT of them. Many worked fine - until they didn’t. Some had ads every single chapter, or try to bribe you into the paid version by withholding newer chapters, or badgering you constantly. Some were okay but allowed for very limited search terms. But this just works, ads are there when you open the app but you’re not interrupted in the middle of a story, no badgering about the paid version but I think they deserve your money, I like how you just scroll down while reading, it’s much more immersive that way. It does not automatically update me when new chapters appear for what’s in my library, but maybe that’s a paid version feature. I’ve figured out how to check for updates. Oh and it has a lot of search terms, I usually just check a manga in my library that uses that term (Yuri, for example) and click on it to see what’s new for that search term. Easy!
