I like the app so I can sort the anime I’ve watched but there’s a bunch of missing features. One of the biggest one is writing a review. Theres no write a review button, in order to write a review you have to use the website. Not only that but writing a review is very annoying, I don’t want to type out or read a whole essay on wether I should watch an anime or not but when I try to write a review it says I don’t have enough detail. I should have to go super in depth for a review. When I was writing a review for fire force, I was stating if you don’t like fan service, don’t watch this and talked about that a bit but it would not let me because I didn’t talk in depth enough about the story and animation. Another feature that they should add is a rate all seasons and a button that lets you say you’ve completed all the seasons, especially for long animes like one piece or Naruto. I don’t want to rate every individual season for 10+ season. Especially since I don’t remember exactly what happened each season because it’s so long. With this feature there should be a review the series as a whole because I rate every season the same because I like to think of teh anime as a whole and not wether each season is bad or not. The last feature I think they should add is a simple feature, make it so you can change wether you want the English titles or not. Sometimes I get a little confused as to what anime I’m looking at or if you’re a casual anime fan you’re not gonna recognize the Japanese titles for anime.

While it is helpful to have a dedicated list that branches across multiple streaming platforms for programming, I have one key issue I want to address for the people at MAL. You need a dedicated ‘write review’ button on the shows listed. I want to write a review on a particular show so many of the detractors will understand or at least acknowledge the sub theme of the show, however, I’m only able to look at other people’s reviews they’ve written. No dedicated write review option, and apparently there is supposed to be one under the review option. I find this same issue applies to the manga section as well. A dedicated option for it will allow for a more free flowing wave of takes in various shows that will either pull in new viewers or push them away, and I would like to see a more broad based setup of them rather than the typical 4chan style ‘only popular posts stay up’ because that’s what I’ve been noticing with reviews that are up-it’s only the ones with significant attention. I think it was a fine move to put the app out in its current state, while there are still many QOL, minor, major updates and improvements, to have the app in a working state, still nice & built, is incredibly useful. Understandably there are many suggestions, complaints, etc. but I’ve used this app a lot more than I thought and is really a one-up over the sluggish website on web (on a phone), even with some missing features. I hope development continues though since this is a really useful accessory to MAL, and since it’s release a few months ago I haven’t heard much so I hope it’s still having care put into it. Marketing the app better would be a suggestion too, considering I only heard of it through its initial release when the release post on the forums was on the front page.
