Overall, one of the more enjoyable sudoku apps I’ve tried, and I feel like there’s two areas to improve it to make it better. Firstly, having difficulty options is great for helping people get what they want out of sudoku, either a quick puzzle, or a long challenge. There needs to be a higher difficulty. The current highest was a matter of minutes to solve and there was no need at all to use notes. Secondly, it would be nice if there was a setting to turn off number and row/column highlighting. Keeping track of those mentally is a skill that I’ve developed by doing a lot of sudoku, and having those on permanently trivializes that somewhat. I do have to say though, dev response seems to be quite good especially when regarding ads which was a pleasant surprise. All in all, a pretty good sudoku app, just isn’t quite right for those who want a more challenging experience.
This is my favorite Sudoku app. The hint algorithm is not perfect, but it has some incredible capabilities. My only real complaint is with the levels. The extreme level is really extreme. The expert level is slightly easier. I just played three games on the hard level in less than five minutes. My best time was 59 seconds. My average time on the expert level is 15 minutes. My best guess is the developer spends all his time on improving the hint algorithm and it shows. But most of those algorithms are way over my head, maybe some day I will buckle down and try to figure them out. But for now it would be better if the hard level was a bit challenging with an average solve time of 5 minutes or so.
I’ve been doing Sudoku puzzles since I was in high school for math homework and it has become increasingly difficult to find an app that truly challenges me anymore. The “expert” level truly will force you to use your entire store of logical reasoning to complete and it’s so satisfying when you finally get it! This level goes far beyond the basic rules of sudoku. Some complain that the app’s pencil feature doesn’t erase possibilities when you fill in a permanent number and that there isn’t an option to erase once you’ve filled one in, but I actually find that this makes the app’s overall experience much more like doing a puzzle in real life (on paper, imagine that) and forces me to pay more attention when filling in cells - then it’s great when I realize I forgot to erase the pencilled-in number that is no longer a possibility and I sometimes end up solving a cell due to that when I get stuck! Overall, great app, simply designed, challenging puzzles and an extremely minimal ad experience (if you even notice the ads at all - you’ll never have to worry about one popping up mid-puzzle or anything horrible like that).
