Itโs very similar to the first game. There are new skater animations which are subtly more realistic (sometimes) which I consider mostly an upgrade. The skater has good style and there are finally lip-slides and board slide which are implemented elegantly. However there is a new pop mechanic that makes it so your board is either dragging on the ground our your doing a flat ground tre flip over a car. You canโt limit the height of the pop like in the first. More importantly, the speed of the game is very weird and uncomfortable on my iphone 16. The skater doesnโt go a consistent speed and instead rubber bands back and forth to the point where I find it very hard to read the challenges as the wiz by. It also kills a lot of the โrealismโ for me. I wish I could just set limits on the speed of the skater. Overall itโs good but the game just doesnโt feel as smooth / flowy as the first. Hoping the kinks will get ironed out because the first game is one my favorite mobile games. EDIT: Iโve spent more time with the game and my feedback still applies. On my version, the character Ollies out of every trick, even switch and nollie tricks. If I could have one thing changed it would be for that to be fixed. However Iโd like to also give props to the level design. Itโs amazing. The turning / bank mechanics are incredible and the animations are on the right track but need to be smoothed out. Itโs clear that the devs studied good skate style and probably know what to iron out.
Normally I donโt review games, but this one is special. It is one of the most awesome games Iโve ever seen in Apple Arcade. The moves are smooth, there are a lot of them, graphics are nice and crisp, improvement over its predecessor, while it does slightly lack in content, what it has is amazing. Challenges help you learn the ropes, free skate allows you to explore the state at your own pace and my personal favorite, the pro skate, a procedural generated run each time you play. It is absolutely exhilarating especially in the later game to grind and do tricks in order to find awesome pathways that are different every run. This is a huge improvement then its predecessor in every way possible as this feels like the definitive version of skate city. The first one was lacking, empty, and a tad boring, but a huge step in the right direction as it created a decent and unique skating game with cool ideas but with the game being very flawed, it prevented it from reaching its maximum potential, however here, it takes the cool ideas and takes them to the next level with different pathways, more unique runs, and more tricks/moves which turn it into what the first game should have been. Overall, skate city: New York is an amazing skating game that is not just a huge improvement then its predecessor, but also a strong way to begin 2025 for Apple Arcade.
First, I want to acknowledge the respect I have for your company and the high-quality work youโve delivered in the past. However, I must admit Iโm a bit disappointed with the current state of this game. While the animations are impressive and clearly show a lot of effort, the lack of graphic options is surprisingโespecially since your previous title, Skate City, included them. One major issue Iโve encountered is that every 360 flip animation (both regular and nollie) feels noticeably slow on my M1 Mac. This not only disrupts the flow of gameplay but also causes the board to clip through objects, which significantly breaks immersion. Adjusting the animation speed could make a huge difference here. Additionally, the gameโs bloom effect feels overly intense, and the absence of a toggle or adjustable graphics settings makes it difficult to optimize the experience. Adding these features would give players more control and greatly enhance the overall enjoyment of the game. Despite these frustrations, I want to emphasize that I believe in this gameโs potential. This was my most anticipated release of 2025, and Iโm confident that with a few key updates, it can become the masterpiece I know itโs capable of being. I 100% completed Skate City and had high hopes for this game as its natural evolution. While I feel let down right now, Iโm still giving it 5 stars because I trust in your teamโs ability to address these issues and deliver something truly special. Thank you for your hard work, and I look forward to seeing the updates that will help this game s
