This is an interesting way to divide up the puzzled vs. The mystery and story. You spend stars for clues and you gain stars by doing puzzles so you can stock up on stars and play through an entire chapter, or you can do each at an incremental rate. With their other games, sometimes you get stuck on one puzzle which halts the game. Still fun, but sometimes it’s take a couple days so the story is a little detached. I’m impatiently waiting for chapter 11 to release 😆
I really enjoyed this Haiku game. Each Case is a new chapter; each chapter is part of Lana’s and Barry’s ongoing story. Because the story is logically broken into smaller chunks, it’s really easy to sneak some playtime into a busy schedule and still stay invested. I highly recommend completing a bunch of puzzles first, so you can use the stacked stars to read through each location in a single sitting. It makes the story more cohesive and easier to follow. There are a couple things that could be improved. 1. Some of the puzzle types are behind a paywall, with no way to unlock them. If there is no way to get the puzzles without spending money, the game isn’t truly free to play. 2. I completed nearly all the puzzles without boosts. I would love a way to turn in unused boosts to unlock the remaining puzzle groups. I would also like to spend coins to go back and replay puzzles, especially those that took more than one try or required a boost or extended time. 3. There should be a warning before you reach the final stage in the gold ticket ladder that all prizes must be used within 10 minutes. I ended up with 30 minutes of unlimited play that I wasn’t expecting to have to use immediately. 4. I played the whole thing in a few dats. Please continue the story!
I’m about halfway through the game and love it. First, no technical issues. Second, the games that you play to earn stars to “solve” the cases are different from nearly any I have played. They all require logical thinking to solve, start out easy and get more challenging. I’ve had to use boosters on a few, mainly because I lost patience. They say every game can be solved without using the boosters. Each game has 3 levels, I think 10 or so rounds per level. The cases you solve are the weak part of the game; they are just a vehicle to get to play more of the logic games. You tap on different locations and read the dialogue as the investigators interview suspects or look around for clues- you don’t have to figure anything out, just go through the scenes. You play the logic games to earn stars that allow you to go through the scenarios. Surprisingly, the dialogue isn’t bad, albeit a little cheesy. So far I’m enjoying this game immensely. Really enjoying the quantity and quality of the logic games.
