Through park mobile I could reserve parking in the building I work in for the entire semester. Now I have to keep checking obsessively on the app between the 13th and the 15th of the month to reserve parking for the next month since it can be released at any time. Spots are normally gone for closest lots within an hour on weekdays Monday-Thursday. When I don’t have parking reserved it easily adds 40 minutes to my commute with 20 minutes to find a spot a mile from my office and 20 minutes to walk to my building carrying all of the materials for my courses. Besides just being inconvenient, it disincentives working on campus. And sometimes I reserve a spot and the lot is already full for a spot I paid for. I find this system disrespectful for Pitt faculty, staff and students. This was not an issue before this app.
This app has somehow already made the parking experience worse in Oakland. I pulled into panther hollow at 6am where there is ALWAYS spots for me. Today I’m told they are all claimed by this app, none left for people that actually wake up and commute. There were empty spots everywhere! Now I try to use the app and there is no availability this entire month except for weekends. So much money pouring into Pitt and UPMC building and students, faculty, staff, and everyone who isn’t a doctor has to suffer finding parking like detectives. If it’s 6AM and I’m the first one at a lot, I SHOULD GET A SPOT. Get this app off the AppStore. Horrible idea
This app has made it impossible for me to find parking when I need to come to campus. Literally only 3 days available & all of them Fridays! I never had this issue with ParkMobile & was always able to find parking. Now my only option is to roam Oakland’s side streets & hope I can find somewhere to park where I won’t get towed.
