First, I’d like to talk about the app. It could definitely benefit from defaulting to the dashboard right away, so I could see the renewal date and usage better than on the first screen. Then on the website I can see and manage all the numbers for my family, but on the app, I can only see mine. Lastly, it would really be nice to be able to see a usage over time chart both in the app and on the website. For the phone service, it continues to be affordable, though they recently they removed several useful usage, tiers that had made it much more flexible and worth the money every month. If they end up narrowing the choices even more then there won’t really be an advantage to Tello over another service like Mint.
Pros- Tello seems to run off towers other providers also use. For instance, I’ll occasionally have my iphone tell me my provider is t-mobile instead of Tello. So, you should get good service provided you don’t live surrounded by farms or mountains. This “switch” doesn’t seem to affect billing at all. Orders on the app work instantaneously. If I run out of data my plan will update as soon as I place my order and service resumes. Cons- why does your app not run full speed, at all times? If I’m out of high-speed data how should I be expected to order more if my phone won’t load your app until the 14th attempt? This is not an issue with the app not loading due to an outage, this is an issue with the app not loading due to “running out of high-speed data” when I have an unlimited plan, and not being able to load the app. The app tracker for data is also delayed. If you accidentally exceed your limit it’s possible the app will say you haven’t used any data at all, for what can seem like nearly 12 hours after you’ve exceeded the data cap. The unlimited high-speed data plan isn’t unlimited (it’s around 25gbs). Your terms clearly say so. Show me how much high-speed data I have remaining on my plan, don’t show me an infinity sign. TLDR; Tello offers quality service, but the app has some hiccups. This should be read as a review of the app, not the other services Tello provides.
hate it hate it hate it. not just the app but the service too. it worked fine for the first month. and then all hell broke loose. I could not get any of my apps to load. I was outside, not connected to wifi (obviously, that’s why I was using data) and nothing was working. It said I had 4 bars of service. It appeared to be working. But alas, it was not. This was extremely frustrating. So, we called customer service. 4 times. Yes, they picked up (2 of the times) and gave clear and easy instructions on how to reset my phone and get my service to work but it just did. not. work. It’s not like my plan had just renewed or anything. It just STOPPED working. Then on one call they told us they only have ONE cell tower?????!!!! I knew this was a small, lesser known service but you wouldn’t expect it to be THAT small. So I’m leaving this service. And I had to port out. And that in itself was a WHOLE OTHER ISSUE ENTIRELY. I didn’t know my pin number so of course, I went to reset it. The only way you could reset your pin was by entering the previous pin number. What????? I wouldn’t be resetting my pin if I KNEW the pin number!!!! So of course, we had to call customer service. AGAIN. Well, I’ve FINALLY managed to port out my number and I am currently in the process of switching providers. If you’re considering this carrier, my advice is to be wary. Maybe it’ll go different for you, maybe you’ll love the service like all these other reviews say, who knows. But personally, as the kids would say, “this aint it.”
