It does what you need it to do: helps you figure out the settings to use for you SLR or other kinds of cameras. Definitely helpful when using a film camera and you’re locked in on your ISO If you’re getting into film photography, I definitely recommend using this app! My recommendation for beginners: do some research on what each of the camera settings do, as each has their own technical/artistic element, this app doesn’t help with the style, it’s more like a calculator to help you with the lighting math (if ykyk) :)

I have tried countless light metering apps and always come back to this one Being able to snap a photo then tap and view/adjust the type of exposure I am after is so useful, instead of having to just get an overall even exposure I can dial it down to crush the blacks and get more contrast, this has been especially useful for getting night photography that is properly exposed in my opinion. The ability to set my ISO and lock it is plenty for me as from there I can just turn the aperture dial or the shutter speed dial to work in aperture or shutter priority modes. Taking a sample photo and working out my exposure from there is a much more pleasant work flow than the typical light meter app experience of constantly updating numbers where ever your phone is point in that exact moment. Truly able to get everything I need out of this app and it has been consistent and accurate across all of my cameras giving me great results.

I use a beautiful little vintage Olympus Pen F half-frame film camera. I’ve shot film for 50 years, and have a pretty good idea how to eyeball exposures. Having this ultra simple and quick exposure meter, however, is just perfect to confirm my settings. I see a few people here complaining that you can’t lock two metrics at the same time, but honestly for a nice easy-to-use free app, this works just fine. A dandy little freebie.
