Known: Swipeless Dating

I used this app twice. The first date I was matched with someone who held moderate political views. Now listen, I described my ideal partner as someone who values human rights especially coming from a family of immigrants. Moderate felt like a clear mismatch. Also the photos of this match were somewhat fratty. I also described wanting a partner to build a serious connection with. Although, on the date it was apparent he had no intention of being in a serious relationship. There’s been two huge gaps in what I’ve described and what was presented but that’s Ai for you. Ai is not a real human listening and matching with care. It simply receives data and then by whatever system it utilizes, makes a “match”. Or mismatches in my case. This wasn’t better than any dating app and in some ways it’s worse. It does not display relationship type i.e. casual hookup or committed partnership. It’s definitely a modern approach that’s why I was intrigued but there are serious gaps to consider if you’re hoping for intentionality. Lastly, I’ll just say since when did we require ai to book our dates? There is so much to be learned about how a person plans and where you choose to go (low effort - high effort) that will be a sneak preview of compatibility. Removing this aspect removes helpful information on a person and felt like the wrong move.

I've never been much for any of the typical dating apps but decided to give Known a try out of curiosity and it's been a completely different experience. I've felt the focus has been more on quality rather than quantity. I've been on some great dates so far with genuine people who were clearly there for the same reason I was. There's been less emphasis on how someone presents themselves virtually and more on how the chemistry is between you and the person sitting across from you. If you're open and serious about going on actual dates this app is for you. The Known team is also great. They're very responsive and I've loved seeing all the great updates since the app went live.

What immediately stands out about Known is how intentional it feels. There’s no endless swiping, no dopamine spiral, no sense that you’re just another profile being shuffled through an algorithm designed to keep you addicted rather than connected. Instead, the experience feels calmer, more thoughtful, and—honestly—more human. The AI aspect is subtle in the best way. It’s not gimmicky or intrusive, and it doesn’t try to “play matchmaker” in a cringe way. It simply helps surface better conversations and more aligned connections, which is surprisingly rare in dating apps. You can tell there’s been real care put into how people are introduced to one another, not just how many matches the app can generate. I also appreciate that the app doesn’t assume everyone is here to play games. The overall tone attracts people who actually want to be present, communicate clearly, and be intentional with their time. Even just browsing or observing how it works feels refreshing compared to the chaos of most platforms. I’m currently in a relationship, so I’m not actively using it to date—but even from that perspective, I can say this is one of the few apps that feels like it’s genuinely pushing the category forward. It’s thoughtful, well-designed, and built around quality rather than volume. If dating apps have ever made you feel tired, cynical, or disengaged, this one feels like a reset. Highly recommend.
