Firstly, out of all bluetooth mesh messenger apps, this is the only one which is still consistently updated and supported. Secondly, not only is it a bluetooth mesh messenger, but it is also a very secure Tor messenger. There are not a ton of people online, but if you search around for a while you will find a few; in that sense, it reminds me of transmitting messages over radio or the like. The entire system requires no account or password or anything like that, is free, and is entirely secure, so long as you take a second to think about what it is you're sending! Overall, I enjoy the app, and hope it finds more users. As for mesh messaging: If ever you need to communicate with others while you have no Internet connection, this is ABSOLUTELY the only app to reasonably consider, and it works very well, even over relatively long distances; and of course, if you do have an Internet connection, you can talk to people around the world.
Downloaded this app a while ago and thought of Mike Judge’s Silicon Valley. With the ML advancements that have occurred in the past few years, hopefully Web-4 doesn’t suffer the same fate as Pied Piper did. Even with the encryption related concerns though, I can think of so many industries that could benefit immensely something like this (truck drivers, lifeguards, forest service officials). You should see if you could somehow break into the shipping industry and integrate this into as many trucks as possible. There is a substantial amount of trucks on the road in all areas at all hours of the day and plus, CB radio is outdated. A peer to peer network requires users, but I wonder if this issue could be circumvented through implementing this technology into freight trucks and trains (think modern CB radio… you could modernize shipping communication and get a 2 for one deal as that modernization would be a pretty solid foundation for your network). Looking forward to any more Web-4 related developments. Happy Holidays to the team!
Super cool app, thank you Mr. Dorsey. These features would be great to have: A sort of “location” feature that you have the option to turn on and only pops up in private chats, then it would show the other user the heading you are facing with a compass, and the distance you are away from the other user, relative to the amount of feet you are from them. Could make the app seem less private though, but maybe by default it can be off. A general settings page to change font, font size, color, and other features. Changing the blue blinking typing indicator to green would look a bit nicer and consistent on the app. This one would be SUPER cool, but I have no clue if this is possible. The ability to send “images”, but instead, you would select an image (just by a + button then select from your camera roll) and it would convert the image into ASCII text that you could then send a sort of “pixelated” version of that image without needing to store all that color data and just send text which is much better for BLE. Having the option to save the non ASCII version of the image to your camera roll would be nice too.
