Wasn’t sure what to expect from Agora. I’ve tried a few of these “meet new people” apps before and they mostly end with a dead group chat and no actual plans. This one’s different Been to a few of their events now and they’ve all been a great time. Proper organised, great turnout and the kind of crowd that actually shows up wanting to talk to people rather than standing in a corner on their phones The thing that got me is I’ve actually made friends off the back of it. If you’ve found it hard to meet people as you get older (which honestly most of us have), it’s worth a go Highly recommend it
I booked a specific event through this app — a house party on 25 July. Agora cancelled it and, without my agreement, transferred my booking and payment to a completely different event: a boat party a week earlier, which I never chose and did not attend. I wasn't properly told. The event I'd saved to my phone calendar from their app never updated — it still showed the house party on the 25th — while inside the app the booking simply vanished, with no cancellation notice and no message, despite my having push notifications on. Realistically no one checks a booking app daily for weeks; you save it to your calendar so you don't have to. The one place I'd have looked still showed the original party. The first I heard of the replacement was a marketing text about an hour before a boat I didn't know I was booked onto was due to start — nowhere near enough time to drop my plans and cross London for it. When I contacted support, they confirmed in writing that they'd swapped the event and never updated the calendar. They claimed an SMS had been sent weeks earlier; I never received it, and I sent screenshots proving no such text reached my phone. No apology, no acknowledgement anything had gone wrong — just a cheerful "does this help?" They did, however, manage to text me afterwards asking me to rate them in the App Store, so they can clearly reach customers when it suits them. This is not how an events company bringing strangers together should operate. The whole product is trust: that the event is real, happening when and where they said, with proper notice if anything changes. I formally requested a full refund and gave them seven days. That deadline has now passed with no refund, no confirmation, and no response at all, so I'm recovering the money through my bank. Be very cautious booking through this app. Your event can be cancelled, your booking silently moved to something else, the date changed, and your money kept — and you may find out with almost no time to spare, if at all.
Such a great idea! This app really helps you get out of your own bubble and meet new people in a relaxed, low-pressure environment. It takes all the hassle out of trying to organize plans or find people to hang out with - the admin and logistics are done for you! I’ve had such a good time trying new things, sharing experiences, and connecting with people I might never have met otherwise. It’s a total no-brainer if you’re looking to add a bit more fun and social adventure to your life.
