Greek by Nemo

I’ve been using Nemo Greek for several weeks and found I could progress faster with the Player and reversible Flash Cards features than I could with Duo Lingo (which had problems with recognizing my Greek inputs by key and voice on iOS). Nemo Greek is inherently motivating because I’m able to move ahead and view my stats across several simple metrics. I got quite far on the free program and then bought additional content. I was never motivated buy more on Duo Lingo even though they kill you with ads and invitations to upgrade to the subscription every few minutes.

I had been using the free app and recently purchased the extended version so I could get more serious. My complaint is lack of explanation of what tile temperature means. Two default settings have these on and if one leaves them on, not all words in a category appear in the player to practice or appear less often because they’ve been deemed cool words that don’t need as much attention. While that may be helpful after one builds a vocab—deciding what are important words to emphasize—the default shouldn't be to exclude words, or at least offer an explanation of what that means so a user can choose what fits them best. I thought it was a buggy program; turns out I just didn’t like the app’s choices.

After visiting Greece once, I’ve dreamed of going back with the ability to converse in Greek. This app is great! Highly recommend. It helps you learn phrases and words (with the right pronunciation!). Just pick a category and click play. It will shuffle through words/phrases, adding new ones as you go. Continues playing even when the app is in the background. Listening to words repeated frequently for even 10 minutes daily ingrains then in my mind— both Greek pronunciation and English meaning. Since I have no Greek friends to immerse me in the language, this is the next best thing. It’s easy, fun, simple, and incredibly effective.
