I’ve had iFunny for about a decade now I’ve been using the app since I was 9 and it was 2010 cat memes I’ve watched memes evolve it’s been awesome and I’ve had so many problems with the apps ui and other issues that I have never felt the need to review or talk about here but for the last few weeks whenever I’m using the app completely by itself on my phone the only app open and being used no other background tabs open for more than 5-10 minutes my phone slows to a laggy 2fps crawl I can’t swipe to the next meme I can’t even type a comment or do practically anything without it completely slowing to mountain growth speeds and my phone feeling like the battery is about to explode because of how hot it is and now I’ve been using the app for idk 30 minutes and my phone goes from 63% to 11% battery life? No other app has done this I’ve tried with background apps and no background apps I’ve tried using random apps for awhile to see if anything else recreated the problem and no it’s just iFunny bricking my phone one swipe at a time and apparently draining my battery into oblivion idk how that happens but I have never had a problem like this not even on old iPhones before they got sued which were old then and were affected by apples policy but iFunny ran fine on those phones it ran fine on this phone until like 2-3 weeks ago when I started to notice this ridiculous problem

I have been on this app since I was in middle school, and I am now I graduate student at college. I have seen this app through several stages of its life and I can say that the app is done. What started out as a place to read funny, user created memes, has turned into a hyper politicized ad infested app. I can remember a time when every single person got the same 20 features at a time twice a day. It was great because it was designed to be the best memes that were created recently. However, more and more release times with more and more features made the quality drop drastically. The user base no longer even sees the same features at the same time anymore, which makes it feel disconnected and old. It routinely feels that the featured section is a continuation of the collective section. Ads are another big issue, with every other comment, and every few features having an ad following it. It really breaks the experience. Lastly, the app moved to much in the political direction, which is fine, but they didn’t counter the trolls and people that sought to bring argument and radical views into the app, which ruined the experience for everyone else. I can definetly say that, at this point, iFunny is just about dead, and only a return to its roots will give it any chance at longevity. I would give the app a one star review, but I can’t do that just because of the good times I had on it, even if it was many years ago. Please fix the app, and think of the users, not the profits.

Before criticizing, I want to preface by saying that I enjoy the app, and it’s one of the best for keeping up with trending memes. With that out of the way, for awhile now (months), the absurd number of features have been difficult to keep up with. I may be cynical, but I think the reasoning is that the more time people spend on the app, the more advertisements they’ll see, and generate more revenue for the devs. The other issue is the nasty undercurrent of alt-right users. This has been prevalent since the 2016 election, and I feel the main reason for why many people have left the app since then. 2021 update: the ads have supposedly gotten worse, however some users like me have Lockdown or Blokada to block this nonsense. Without it, many users report their phone battery drains and overheats from the amount of ad trackers. On top of that, features are being pumped out by algorithms at an even faster rate, which is impossible to keep up with and causes the community to be spread thin. Many like myself demand this to be less, preferably when it was around only a few sets of 20 a day. If no changes are made soon, your userbase is going to decline fast.
