Iโll start with the positives, the app holds a lot of important information to plan your day on the slopes. It gives you everything from terrain and lift status to mountain cameras if available. The app shows your existing passes and can scan in your pocket (I donโt know about epic day passes attached to the account). Time for the cons, the main advantage of this app was to not need a physical pass, just for it to scan in your pocket, but there are limits. These limits consist of the app having to be pulled up before you lock your screen and, probably my least favorite, you have to keep your screen facing out in your pocket. The reason I donโt like this is because, if I fall, my screen is protected by my leg. Also I noticed the app is not a fan of MagSafe wallets for scanning the passes. Another small thing is that nothing is really in the app outside the core features. For example, if you need to make an account edit the app pulls up a web browser with in the app for you to do so, same with the โneed helpโ section, and buddy passes. Overall the app is decent and comes in handy when I donโt have my physical pass. In my opinion the physical cards scan easier.
So Iโve had EPIC for a while now, 5+ years and had the ability to experience the old app before the new My EPIC with pass capabilities. All in all, there are a lot of issues with it and everyone else has stated those in their reviews and I just hope Vail Resorts actually pays attention to the reviews but anyways, I have one major concern that is actually worth me taking time to write a review which I very rarely do. Iโm in IT so I understand the coding responsibilities and difficulties of changing an app around and altering it; however, why were features taken away? For example, an amazing feature that was extremely useful on the old epic app with the map was it would show, if you wanted, the only slopes that are open. Thatโs the most helpful idea when youโre going to a new ski resort with hundreds of runs that you never been to and trying to learn what is open and what isnโt. Now all we have is a list with no visual view. These are the things that even in IT donโt require much effort but instead are oversight as it was already implemented well in a past app version. Lots of improvements need to happen with My EPIC to even be close to other winter sport recording apps but simple features that used to be on the old version shouldโve never left. Please include it back in your new map so we can see what trails are open visually.
