Dosecast: My Pill Reminder App

We’ve used Dosecast successfully for many years. However it will no longer let us renew the Cloud Sync feature. It states “Apple In App Server Unavailable”. Too bad, they finally got it working reliably and now we can’t renew it. Otherwise It has the best scheduling options, including both “time scheduled” and “interval” based, (i.e. every 5 hours). It allows you to turn or off things like early dose warnings. It allows you to attach photo of your med. it works great with my Apple Watch. I wish Dosecast would let you hide the reminder pop up window rather than forcing you to “take”, “skip”, or “postpone”. Then we could see which other meds are upcoming. I’ve looked at many other similar apps and none can match Dosecast. I would rate it 5 stars if the Cloud Sync feature were still available.

Dosecast: “Life” kept my attention so rivited to do things that I “must do”that I sometimes forgot my own needs for taking the medication that I had been instructed was necessary...not just to take them, but at specific times so that my blood level would remain constant. I found that virtually impossible to do. There were too many other things, such as being care-giver for my husband. Try as I might I could not remember to take my pills properly, and I got away with it for a period of time… until I suddenly popped a clot one of my kidneys destroying half of that kidney. I ended up in the ER and then was admitted to the hospital. I learned a very expensive lesson that day. And then my sons suggested Dosecast which would remind me, via my cell phone,to take my pills throughout the day. I found it to be a miracle worker. No more worries about whether or not I took a pill and forgot it or to take the pill in the first place. This one is a no-brainer. It is either live with Dosecast or gamble with the alternative without it. I am so fortunate that that clot went to my kidney, and NOT to my brain, causing a stroke...or worse.

This is the only medication reminder that I have found to have the capability to automatically adjust your next reminder based on the amount of hours intervals you need to take the next medication. For instance: a medication that needs to be taken every 4 hours “after last dosage taken”. So I set a reminder for 6 am (and 4 hours after that throughout the day), but I overslept and took it at 8 am. The next reminder automatically adjusted all future reminders to go for 4 hours after 8 am. On other apps I have to manually adjust all set reminders for that day to adjust for the “delay” in taking my medication. Otherwise, the next reminder would come at 10 am (which is 2 hours too soon to safely take the next dose of medication.) It’s important to have a flexible reminder app because it’s not reality to always take your meds at the EXACT same time each and every dosage in your day. Life happens and you have to be flexible to what is REALITY. So a pill reminder app should also be FLEXIBLE, and automatically adjust your next reminder time accordingly. Otherwise, Meds taken too often too close to the last dose can cause health issues or emergency problems. The only thing I’d change about this FREE version is that it would be a little cleaner in the reminder list. It shows too much detail on the main screen listing of meds. But that’s just appearance. I’m still rating his app at a 5 because of this FLEXIBLE capability to automatically adjust your next reminder based on how many hours between the last taken dosage time.
