Glympse -Share your location

2024 December Update: Not sure when this happened, but Glympse no longer sends your location unless it is running in the foreground. This makes it near useless to me now. Typically I’d send the Glympse to my family and then pull up my map app for the trip. Letting Glympse run in the background, so I could navigate highways and traffic with my favorite traffic app. Bummer. Looking for alternatives now. Dropping rating by a star so now rating it at a 3 star app. 2021 Update: My old review below had a request for creating a Glympse for more than 4 hours, they have done that. Not sure which update created this but now the app shows every recipient as NEVER VIEWED even if they have viewed. I get the notifications if they check the link, but the app continues to show them as NEVER VIEWED. A software fix is required. Love it. Would like to see the ability create a longer time. 4 hours is not enough sometimes. After a recent update, when sending a Glympse via txt, the app says it was sent, but it really wasn't. If I reboot my phone, it starts working properly again--for a time. Then reverts to inaccurate "Glympse sent" messages.

I now understand this is a rather restrictive "navigation" appI that pre-determines a route. This restriction does not meet my need for an app that simply indicates my location without presumptive route "clutter". I need to inform another only my current location--not upon an app-determined route as the app's solution is most likely not my intent. I ride a mountain bike upon trails: even when choosing the bike icon; the app indicates dots upon most-direct roads to a destination I eventually intend to get to upon multiple select trails. So, sharing my location data that is laid upon an assumed route misleads the tag receiver. This can also apply to anyone who might be out for a joy-ride such as with family who might go to s movie, than a restaurant not yet predetermined and then shopping, etc; too much to preload!. If the app allows one to remove the predetermined route--I haven't found how to control that feature via extensive time in the online manual and searches to include whether the paid version of the app provides that capability. So, I'll go elsewhere for an app that simply provides location!

Glympse allows me and my wife to make most of our time. We both have to commute but only have one car. I cannot use public transport to work, so I use the car. I drop off my girl friend at the train stop every morning before I drive to work, however, picking her up in the evening is not that easy since I might be stuck in traffic or her bus/train is caught up by the rush hour. Being on each others' screen through Glympse makes it much easier to still time our pickup well. If she is running late, I go to the store adjacent to the train stop first. If I am running late, she walks towards the way she sees me taking on glympse. Also, for longer driving without the other you can always make sure you know what's going on so that I can have dinner on the table by the time she is home for example. We seriously use Glympse every day. Just great!
