Fantasy Hike

Ok, this app has been with me for a couple years now and I finally reached the end. It was worth however much I paid for it (I don’t remember at this point). It wasn’t trying to be fancy, it didn’t need to be interactive. It isn’t necessarily meant for those who care about fitness. It’s for those who want to view life as an adventure, a journey, a fairy tale full of magic that we have grown numb to. This app reminds us that no matter where you are, whether it be the lakes of Minnesota, the city scapes of New York, or the plains of Kansas, this world we have been gifted truly is wonderful. I downloaded this app back in 2023 and checked it pretty regularly at first. Then I forgot about it and it sat in the background. I’d check it every couple months but I didn’t need to watch it constantly. It kept up with the adventure of my life. It was fun to follow along with the story of a certain unnamed trilogy. In the end, when my character set foot in “The Dark Land” and finally threw the ring in “Mount Fire,” I felt accomplished. I felt like a chapter of my story was finished, and yet the journey moves ever-forward. Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping, into the future so the question is, am I going to grab hold of every moment and be present with those around me that I care about? All I know, is that whoever made this app put a lot of heart into it while keeping it simple and I thank them for that.

First, let me say that I love the concept of this “game”. It definitely helps motivate me to walk more and I love the graphics and feel of it. But there is so much room for improvement and considering that you are asking users to consider a one time payment and even a subscription, you need to offer more! I paid the $4, that was no big deal, but the game would have to offer so much more for me to consider a subscription. 1. Have a more interactive map! Let me zoom in, see more details of where I am going, see where other characters are. 2. Provide more characters. All the characters are on a journey. Unless you are retired or hiking the Appalachian trail most of us are more sedentary with small bouts of walking when we can. I’m finding it hard to keep up with even the slowest character. This makes it hard to stay motivated. 3. For $4, for me to be able to connect to friends but then not be able to see where they are on the map or even their distance seems misleading. Offer more for $4, don’t force everyone into a subscription when not everyone can afford it. 4. Have more storylines about where I am and where I am going. Maybe more imagery to get me excited to get there. Just competing with the other characters isn’t enough. 5. Offer more achievements. I’m 17 miles in and haven’t gotten a single one since I left. Achievements help to motivate. This app could be so great if more work was put into it!!! Please keep building it!

Find an app addition that connects to the iPhones Health App and it’s connections and you can increase your sales/downloads/upgrades with add in features so customers do t have to use multiple apps or add health trackers to your own app so it’s stand alone and doesn’t have to incorporate or pay for Apples features and branding etc. also pay me royalties for the suggestion. You could also add side trips and magnifiers to dial I. To the maps specific locations like a state map has city blow ups for smaller regions. And interaction points like chatting with others in a multiplayer daily walking app. People could also design the route to coordinate with their own daily routes or specific to trails as well. There are all Kinda of ways to expand this apps functionality but as a stand alone it’s the best I’ve found in the App Store. Easily too 5 for just fun and doesn’t take up time looking at my phone but rather walking and looking at it after. Also, Tell mr Underhill to slow down; I’m not trying to catch him but it would be cool to have someone to talk to on the trail every so often like an outpost to get some pot pie and a beer…. What’s his hurry? He’s 343 miles ahead of me. He paid for the upgrade and I don’t so maybe all these suggestions will be answered when I pay the $3.99 so I am either the smartest reviewer you have ever had or have limited walking info due to financial constraints. It is an awesome app.
